What would YOU like to see happen under Obama's Administration?
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 05:19 AM by happychatter
My pet cause is Public Campaign Financing, but that's a State Level Fight for me

On the Federal Level I'd like to see a free press

I'd like to see proper Election Reform that addresses corruption, e-voting and dirty tricks

I want the Bill of Rights restored

I don't want our Defense and Intelligence apparatus to be the private tool of transnational corporations and fat cats, but rather, to protect the interests of the American people

Your turn if you want to play... I'm just night owling it this week

peace out

edited to add: Trade agreements with teeth... enforced compliance regarding currency manipulation... labor and human rights standards... the environment

I hate taking money out of savings just to eat. I can't even find a retail job right now and it's incredibly frustrating.

7. Our country is in such a crisis that I believe Obama and His Team
will have to spend the first 2 years putting out fires while
trying to get this ship turned in right direction.

Since I have high regards for Obama, Hillary and Joe Biden, I am
asking them to do one thing: Anytime an issue or policy is discussed
be sure to study carefully and thoroughly how it will impact our
Middle Class. I understand they must assist Business but it
imperative that our Middle Class be saved. No Middle Class=No Democracy.
No Middle Class and we become a "Banana Republic".
When Middle Class is thriving America Thrives and Wall Street Thrives.

9. A govt. that works from the bottom up to the top
and welfare out of the hands of big banks and for big business. I can not believe we are letting a guy next door go for broke, no job and house gone, and give money to a man making 16 million a year that runs a company the can not make any money. What is is with that type thinking any how?

11. All that cash that was sent to Iraq and then went missing
Hundreds and hundreds of things, but besides those already mentioned, I really really really want to see an in-depth investigation about what happened to all that cash that was sent to Iraq and then went missing. The "liberal" MSM and Republicans blew it off, like it was no big deal. My mind still boggles!

12. here are a few
in no particular order.

An end to the drug war.

A turn to being smart on defense, rather than "strong" on defense; i.e., big cuts to the military and a general rethinking of the way we project ourselves in the world.

A reinvestment in infrastructure programs.

An end to the useless and counterproductive No Child Left Behind scheme which devalues teaching as an end in and of itself and hampers interest in both learning and teaching.

A move away from privatizing things like roads, prisons, etc.

A sensible, fair accessible care, not profit, oriented health care system. This would include bringing big pharma to heel.

Openess in government; no more secret Dick Cheney style energy meetings.

A restoration of the fairness doctrine.

An end to the Cuba embargo.

I could list many more, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for any of them to come to pass.

14. My wishes are tied into that evil gay agenda
1) Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (a fully inclusive one, including transgendered folks)

2) Pass the Matthew Shepard Act

3) Down the road, repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell

4) Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (that one is probably undoable for a while, politically).

18. I want the sun and the moon to rise and fall at my personal whim.
But since that isn't any more likely than Obama being able to recreate the press to make them do their jobs properly, I'll stick to reality.

Work to pull this country back from economic depression. This means stop throwing money at financial institutions that just use it to buy up other failing banks and start lending money to companies that actually hire working class people who keep the economy afloat (with regulatory strings that keep these companies from investing our tax dollars overseas).

Restore Habeas Corpus. The right to question one's incarceration is paramount for a free society.

Support (really support) GLBT rights. No one who is GLBT should be paying a single tax dollar until his/her rights are specifically encapsulated by federal law to be equal (not separate) to those of every other person in this country.

Get out of Iraq. We are killing innocent people and borrowing ourselves into poverty all for a war on a country that never threatened us. It has been proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that our war in Iraq is illegal and predicated on lies. Every day we remain is a day we are criminals.

Cut military spending. There, I said it. The United States currently spends as much as every other country in the world, combined on our defense. Even so, our soldiers do not have basic equipment, often resorting to buying their own. Reduce spending by eliminating mercenaries who charge up to 20 times the cost of a soldier and give up on ridiculous SDI programs that just don't work.

Support Free Trade, but understand that free and fair are not antonyms. If GM wants to build a plant in China that plant should be equipped with the same environmental protections as the U.S. would require and the workers should receive the same pay and benefits as a union worker. If Toyota wants to ship cars over or build them here, the same rules should apply.

Universal health care. We can't compete on a global scale against companies that do not have to pay for individual health care for their employees. Until we realize this and resolve the issue once and for all, we will continue to go down the road of obsolescence. We will end up as nothing more than a wasteland nation with the ability to destroy the entire earth with nuclear weapons.

There are many more things that must be done, but this list would be a good start.

As long as he doesn't pull a Clinton and abandon his platform to move to the middle, then I'm happy. He ran on the things I care about most: clean energy, public service, right to organize, end the Iraq war, fair trade and so on.

30. The war on terror expanded to include a domestic front
Gitmo may be history, but all the McVeigh/Adkisson/Oswald wannabes out there should be given a one-way ticket to a federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. And people like Palin, Savage, Coulter, and Hannity should receive a strong message that the American people do not condone them inciting potentially dangerous, violent hatred against other Americans.

32. 1. Single payer universal health care or the passage of HR676 the extended
Medicare for all bill that's floating around in committee, ignored and not heard. Sure George W. Bush would veto it but hopefully, if it get's to Obama's desk he won't.

2. I want all criminals and thieves attached to the Bush administration to be investigated, tried and sentenced including the head cappos themselves, George Bush and Dick Cheney.

3. An FDR type of program to start putting every one to work and reverse the downward spiral of the economy.

Of those three, reasonable to me, things I want done, I'm a realist and know that maybe only number 3 has a chance in hell of getting done.

33. My top priorities:
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 05:22 PM by LWolf
No more NCLB, or high-stakes testing of any kind.

No more NAFTA/CAFTA

HR 676.

Universal public pre-school through college education.

No more patriot acts.

Restore habeus corpus.

Get out of Iraq, and end the bogus war on terror.

Economic stimulus aimed at the people, in the form of a modern WPA-type
jobs and infrastructure program.

Some modern version of a fairness doctrine.

Election reform, to include:
hand-counted paper ballots in all elections
all polling banned
all elections 100% publicly financed
all candidates guaranteed equal, and equally neutral, media coverage
proportional representation
irv or some other form of ranked voting

How many of these do you think are likely to happen in an Obama administration?
