Clinton prepares to relinquish independence
NEW YORK – For years, Hillary Rodham Clinton set aside her own considerable ambition to promote her husband's political career.

Now, as President-elect Barack Obama's choice to be secretary of state, the former first lady faces the prospect of subsuming her political identity yet again — this time on behalf of the man who dashed her hopes of returning to the White House in her own right.

Friends said the potential loss of her independence, hard won by her election to the Senate from New York in 2000, caused Clinton to waver last week as she considered Obama's offer. But advisers said the discussions got back on track after he promised she would have considerable input on staffing decisions and plenty of access to him.

Aides said that while the deal is not yet final, the president-elect is on track to nominate Clinton as the nation's top diplomat after Thanksgiving.

1. If she's not sure, she shouldn't do it. Obama can find someone else.

2. Amen. I wonder how many other people negotiated their positions?
I may be overly critical, but I'm more than a little disgusted with the Soap Opera scenario from her and Bill.

Where said t-shirt says "I ran for President Vice-President Secretary of State, and all I got was this crappy t-shirt".

EDIT: Added bold.

5. Typical AP reporting
"the former first lady faces the prospect of subsuming her political identity yet again — this time on behalf of the man who dashed her hopes".

What a phrase! I don't think this is coming from Hillary folks. It appears to me by the silly language of the article that someone is trying to stir things up.

I would not consider her my choice for that post, but lets be realistic, this is just crappy sensationalized "reporting" by someone trying to get a good gossip story going. It is shameless, stupid and sensationalized.

I take issue with her for what I perceive as hawkishness on her part, but I respect her too much to lay this garbage at her feet.

6. Your perception is not awry.

EDIT: Nevertheless, it IS an excellent move in the game of political-chess on Obama's part - regardless of whether she accepts. It's too bad you can't just stop the analysis there, but instead intellectual honesty requires the further step of analysing her temperamental fitness for the job of America's Top Diplomat.

(I take it as agreed upon by both sides that her intellect and general background knowledge credentials are just fine - so that's not a point of contention.)
