1. Because they're assholes.
That's the short answer.

And because they don't want to look like they're caving in to a black man

5. They don't like being in the minority and know that letting the current
large Democratic congressional majorities become entrenched during the next few election cycles could be devastating to them - they don't want to relive 1958-1994, when a 243-192 Democratic House majority was about as good as it got for them (and usually was much worse). They're going to throw everything they've got at us and we're going to have to be vigilant in beating it down.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 10:00 PM by political_Dem
You can preach all you want about reaching across the aisle. You can even let some into the fold. But in the end, they stab you in the back because they are loyal to party principle above all else. There are no shades of grey for them.

In the end, a leopard never changes its spots no matter how much petting you give it.

20. Don't be fooled by one victory. The war for this nation is still on
The GOPukes will never give up. Like cornered rats they will fight harder to keep as much control as they possibly can. Bi-partizanship is not truly possible as long as these proto-Fascists retain their high positions in the GOP and other parts of our society.

What is the possible motivation for them to cooperate and support ANY of Obama's proposals? His success guarantees their own marginalization as time goes by. Why does anyone think they will go quietly into that long night?

Put Dean back in charge of the party and carry forward the work of removing these slugs from any form of political life. Anything less will result in their resurgence in two, four and six years as the various electoral cycles play out.

Bimbo the Bachman is already claiming the last two years of fumble-fingered, ineffectual and impotent Democratic control of Congress is what caused our current economic collapse. Sure its crazy but there will always be someone out there to buy into these lies.

The GOPukes have to be expunged or we will have to do this all over again. Next time, though, they'll be ready.

They don't care about the country, nor do they have plans to fix any of the current crises, most of which they have caused.
They want to make any Democrat look as bad as possible.
That is what they do.

Edited on Sat Nov-22-08 06:18 PM by StopThePendulum
in the 1930's. The very same gang of thieves who've gotten too big for their britches, and whose bank accounts have gotten too big off the labor of others. These anti-American frauds are the evil grandchildren and great-grandchildren of business cheats who secretly made deals with our enemies, while peddling fear and fostering hatred and division to the American people. They're the same families who've tricked workers into doing the bidding of their bosses against their own better judgment and at their expense.
