1. It's very unusual for a Secretary of State to stick around for both terms.

3. Granted, but if she serves only one term, what would she do in the 2nd administration?
Got to keep visibility somehow. A short stint as Gov. of New York, perhaps?

28. Any president would ask the SoS to resign if they planned to run for president because
SoS is typically a non-partisan position, and you can't run for president and be an effective SoS at the same time.

8. No, but... SoS, then help Obama get re-elected, then step down in '13. Then run for 3 years.
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 04:43 PM by onehandle
And a grateful and popular President Obama helps her win in 2016.

16. That would be her best option
I would think Biden would not run in 2016 because he'll be 74.

Warner, Webb, possibly Kaine. Throw Bayh in there as well.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 04:37 PM by galaxy21
I wouldn't mind seeing him run one day. The eyebrow thing is defiently weird, though.

But, yeah, the thought of Bayh getting anywhere near the presidency annoys the hell out of me.

29. Kaine has said he's personally opposed to abortion, but thinks it should be legal
Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me whether a candidate personally agrees with abortion or not, as long as they'll work to ensure its legality.

38. In fairness, the guy is running in Virginia
There have been a lot of dems in red states that have to come off as more conservative. If he was running in Mass and talking like that, then maybe there would be a problem.

I understand that sometimes politicians have to adapt to their political enviroment.

32. The Gov doesn't legislate
He is very much anti choice and anti gay rights, and signed that horrible, draconian bill into effect. If you can, catch his campaign debates on youtube: he's VERY conservative socially. I will say he is not a hypocrite: he is also anti death penalty. He lives his religion in every way, including doing a lot of charity work, and as I said, I voted for him and donated to him -0- but I don't want to see him even in the Senate.

because no you don't really have time to be Secretary of State and run for president at the same time.

Mark my words. We'll start hearing about it after the mid-term elections.

UNLESS, Obama is fantastically successful as President in his first four years.

Remember Kennedy? The party won't want to go through that ordeal again. It left a rift and a lot of resentment within the party.

27. If she takes the SoS job, she should give everything she has to that.
She should give up any presidential ambitions she might still have. Though, really, I think she's already done that.

37. It is much more difficult for people to accept an "older woman"
as President. This is not fair, but life is not fair. I supported
Hilary during the campaign but now her age becomes a factor.

Let her become a successful SOS in peace. Do not worry about Presidential
stuff that likely will never even happen.

Wouldn't be nice, but she could do it. And several SOSs have gone on to be prez -- though not in the past 150 years.
