MSNBC: Liberal Bloggers Furious Over Lieberman; MSNBC: Lib Bloggers Over-Estimate their influence
MSNBC is interviewing James Boyce (?) a Liberal blogger who said that we are angry with the Dems for allowing Lieberman to stay as Chairman Homeland Security Committee after Lieberman accused Obama of being a Marxist and saying that Hamas had endorsed Obama. Furthermore, Lieberman campaigned for Sen. COleman against Franken and because of that we are recounting the votes in MN (implying that Franken should have won easily had it not been for Lieberman saying terrible things about Franken and praising Sen. Coleman.

Then the host at MSNBC raised the point that we as bloggers over-estimate our influence and Boyce said that perhaps we don't but we have some say in driving the conversation.

2. I have to wonder
If we'll see a neutered Lie-berman, or the same old Bush-kissing Joe in the next Senate session.

9. I heard that John Kerry ran up to him in the corridor, smashed a cream pie
in his face and then ran off laughing like Heath Ledger's Joker.

5. yeah, that bothered me .
Only because the blogger wasn't trying to SOUND as if bloggers have some grand influence over Obama's decisions. He had a good answer "The fact that I'm on MSNBC talking about the fact that I'm a blogger means that blogs are becoming more and more of the mainstream..the average age of the Daily Kos blogger is 46, just someone in the Democratic party. But we don't overestimate any influence that we might have..." It was just weird because the anchor was looking at the blogger as if he was an alien, when he was being really rational.

6. The MSM just does not get it. They don'y make anybody happy because
theyare out of touch. We here disregard their influence and the Right wing mock them as Drive-by Media.

7. Our influence is felt in different ways
We make the Democrats in Congress (and now the White House) seem moderate in comparison, so it makes any Democratic proposals seem more middle-of-the-road.

Similarly, leftist groups like SDS and the Black Panthers in the 60s and early 70s made the Democrats of that era seem moderate by comparison, and the hate radio DJs/Authors like Limbaugh and Coulter made many Republicans seem moderate by comparison.

Now, if they propose universal health care, we're here to scream that it doesn't go far enough; or if they raise the minimum wage to $8.00/hour, we're here to say that it should be $9.00 or $10.00 or more...

They want to give the impression that no one ever pays even attention to bloggers: Former President Bush Blames ‘Bloggers’ for ‘Ugly’ Political Climate

They hype assholes like Drudge, but how often do you hear them mention Josh Marshall, who broke the attorney firings scandal?

What about Daily Kos, which attracts members of Congress, including Obama? Hillary's Internet Director Peter Daou freqently posted there.

Obama has hired two bloggers for his Internet transition team:

Jesse Lee is the Online Rapid Response Manager for the Democratic National Committee. He previously worked in online communications for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Michael Lux is the co-founder and CEO of Progressive Strategies, L.L.C., a political consulting firm founded in 1999, focused on strategic political consulting for non-profits, labor unions, PACs and progressive donors. Previously, he was Senior Vice President for Political Action at People For the American Way (PFAW), and the PFAW Foundation, and served at the White House from January 1993 to mid-1995 as a Special Assistant to the President for Public Liaison. While at Progressive Strategies, Lux has founded, and currently chairs a number of new organizations and projects, including American Family Voices, the Progressive Donor Network, and BushRecall.org. Lux serves on the boards of several other organizations including the Arca Foundation, Americans United for Change, Ballot Initiative Strategy Center, Center for Progressive Leadership, Democratic Strategist, Grassroots Democrats, Progressive Majority and Women’s Voices/Women Vote.

The Internet (or bloggers) isn't going away.

10. Was this today?
There's a video online from yesterday in which Boyce is discussing this, but I saw in it about bloggers "over-estimating" our influence.

12. David Schuster said as much as on Countdown yesterday
It's a meme, all right--designed to discredit and undermine the very people who put Obama in office.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 03:36 PM by otohara
citizens of this country, but after the other day, it's clear the Democratic leadership doesn't give a rats ass about those who worked hard to get dems elected.

I know one thing, I won't be volunteering one more minute of my time to get anyone of them reelected. Nor will I ever cast another vote for Ken Salazar.
