Palin was ASKED if it was OK to slaughter turkeys in the background. Her response? "No worries"
Palin pardons turkey as bird bleeds out on camera

In 1963, President Kennedy decided to let the White House turkey live instead of making dinner of it. George Bush Sr. was the first president since to pardon a seasonal fowl, in the waning months of 1993, and his son followed suit through his presidency.

Now Alaska Governor and failed Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has mimed presidential tradition, but her effort at winged mercy was 'cut' short. As she staged an impromptu press conference after pardoning one lucky bird, a worker at the Triple D Farm and Hatchery in Wasilla sliced a turkey's neck, bled it out and twisted its head off behind the governor, directly in the camera's line of fire.

A reporter asked Palin if she was okay with the backdrop. The Alaskan Governor answered, "no worries." As the bird's head was removed, the man looked over his shoulder at the governor and reporters and flashed a toothy grin.

"I was happy to be invited to participate in, in this, and, uh, and, you know, for one, you need a little bit of levity in this job, especially with a, uh, so much that has gone on in the last couple of months that has been so, um, political, ah, obviously, that it's nice to get out and, and do something to promote a local business and, and to uh, just participate in something that isn't so, um, heavy-handed politics that, uh, invites criticism," said the governor in what appeared to be a single sentence.

"Certainly we'll even invite criticism for doin' this too, but at least this was fun!" she pronounced.

This video is from MSNBC's Countdown, broadcast Nov. 20, 2008: http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Palin_talks_as_turkeys_slaughtered_behind_1120.html

4. This may come as a shock to some people
but Governor Palin is about as brainless as the bird behind her ended up.

They say the vote revealed that one factor in her defeat was problems in the Suburbs. You can now
cube that factor.

11. You're right...
...I remember Moore talking about whether it was a good idea to include that footage or not. In the final analysis he decided that he wanted to show things the way they really were. For me, it meant that I never watched the movie a second time, but he successfully made his point. Palin made hers too, although I'm sure that she doesn't realize it.

25. I thought about that after i posted it. The rabbit lady was doing
what she needed to do to survive. She was, however,as oblivious to irony as Palin is.

9. You'd think it would have occured to her "I just PARDONED a turkey and you want to MUTILATE and kill
turkeys behind me while I speak. Won't that confuse people about why I'm talking to them in the first place, i.e. 'pardoning the turkey'".

13. More frightening than the turkey background slaughter scene....
is the fact that this woman could have been one heartbeat away from being leader of the free world. Hell, I'll even go further and say, the very fact that she was even chosen to run as a vp was scarier to me than the cuban missle crisis.

We can laugh about it now, but there was a period of time, short though it was, I was holding my breath.

When she was reading the pardon and got to the part about being a friend to all animals, she jabbed the turkey guy with her elbow and grinned, as if saying "we know THAT's a load of BS!"

But really, what would it have taken to move the interview over a few feet?

She really has very bad PR instincts.

23. How anyone could watch this woman for more than
a minute and not come to the conclusion that she is a complete whack job is beyond me.

This is a person who has no problem posing for a photo with her young daughter and a freshly killed, bloody moose. She advocates shooting wolves from a helicopter.

Animal life means nothing to her. I'm surprised she participated in this publicity stunt at all, but totally unsurprised that she was fine with the carnage behind her. It certainly would have been more in character for her to show up to personally behead the turkey. Much more her style.

30. First - WTF - she is NOT the POTUS
and even if the country freaked out on 11/4 and manage to vote McCain/Palin she would still not be the POTUS but the VPOTUS-elect. So why she was doing this tradition was just stupid.

But hell at least POTUS (or sham ones) who did this took the time to move the pardoned turkey someplace where there isn't a madhouse slaughter going on in the background.

This whole thing just made her look even more stupid then what the entire world believes she is.
