We are having ham for Thanksgiving.

Palin performance. We bought a lot of stuff for the holiday gorges at a local market, so we get a free turkey to put in the freezer for Christmas. We might get another free turkey at Christmas to freeze for later.

for ham and bean soup.

Also, there is a great old PA thing, ham and string beans.
Put about 3 pounds of fresh string beans in a large pot, add ham pieces from the leftovers, a small sliced onion 2 or 3 cut up potatos. Pour in 1/4 cup of water, and cover. Heat till it steams, reduce heat to steam it all for maybe 1 1/2 hours, till everything is tender. This is one of the best simple things you can cook, and it tastes and smells better than you can imagine. Simple is better.

I grew up on a farm and I know how Babe is "prepared." I'm talking about "the neighbors get together and all help out" kind of thing.
Sort of like a barnraising. I know that nothing goes to waste.
That said, I think Palin is a psychopath, a sociopath, into S&M or something. That isn't funny even if you are trying to gross people out.
She was getting her jollies I'll bet.
She probably changed colleges so many times because pets kept coming up missing near her.

I started being creeped out by the cattle that bolted on their way to being dispatched. And then I inadvertently caught a few seconds of a slaughterhouse video before I could find the red X. That did it for me.

The disconnect between what you buy under plastic in a meat market and how it got there has been probably the most brilliant marketing of America's factory farming industry.

I am very happy that Prop. 2 passed in California. It's a start. Americans need to eat less meat for their own welfare as well as the environment.

dolma
moussaka
Greek potatoes (roasted with lemon and garlic)

pumpkin bread pudding (tis the season)

* and it doesn't go with my general Greek theme but gotsa have Margaritas (I have a gag-reflex aversion to licorice so no Ouzo for me!)

When with my family, who are very traditional, it's turkey.
