Franken Has Narrowed The Gap To 136!
55% of the vote in! Gotta keep it up. If I were coleman, I'd be getting pretty uncomfortable.

1. Not looking as good as it was early
It appears that the challenged ballots may determine the election. I had hoped that Franken would hold a lead after the precinct recounts were over but that appears less likely. We can hope that the Coleman challenges have been more frivolous than Franken's and that a lot of those votes will eventually wind up in Al's column.

4. The local wingnuts are going insane.
The comments section at the Star Tribune is loaded with kooks who apparently think that they can affect the outcome if they just write crazy enough stuff. Amusing and sad at the same time.

5. I don't understand this. The cavassing board consists of 2 Dems, 2 Repugs,
and 1 Independent. Pawlenty has already stated that there has been no fraud and everything is going smoothly. What are they complaining about?

7. If it's a close race, they scream.
Dems are supposed to concede defeat, and crawl away whilst weeping piteously; not follow the government-mandated recount process.

After all, Reeps are ENTITLED to win all races for all offices in all locations at all times, right?

:sarcasm:

8. Facts don't matter to these folks.
They claim that:

1. The all-powerful Franken-Ritchie (MN's SoS) axis of liberal evil is controlling the outcome.
2. Asking for the list of rejected absentee voters will destroy the concept of the secret ballot.
3. Ballots that weren't counted properly should all be rejected.
4. The usual litany of ACORN lies.
5. Lots of assorted insanity and insults. They apparently think the campaign is still on.

A truly sad bunch of trolls. Minnesota has its' fair share of right-wing freaks.

9. It'll take a while, sure
And the challenged ballots will have to be reviewed by the Canvassing board, too.

Still, it's a good thing to keep an eye on the recount. For those who have never dug deeply into the sausage-making process that is American democracy, it's a valuable education, as well as great motivation for future activism.
