Just saw the videoclip of Mukasey... did not look good.
Edited on Thu Nov-20-08 11:21 PM by Blackhatjack
He did not fall to the floor, but obviously unconscious as men rushed in and help him to the floor. It was sudden.

It was shown on the 11 pm News on WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC.

I believe www.wral.com will have the clip on their website shortly.

1. Where is the clip exactly?
I looked around and didn't see anything. It could have just passed me by, but y'know. :'(

4. 'Mukasey was delivering a speech
to the Federalist Society at a Washington hotel when "he just started shaking and he collapsed," said Associate Attorney General Kevin O'Connor. "They're very concerned."

Mukasey was 15 to 20 minutes into his speech about the Bush administration's successes in combatting terrorism when he began slurring his words. He collapsed and lost consciousness, said O'Conner, the department's No. 3 official.

Mukasey's was noticeably shaking during his speech before he collapsed shortly before 10:20 p.m. EST. His security detail called 911. Mukasey was on the stage for 10 minutes being attended to by his FBI detail before medics arrived, according to a Justice Department official who was there. Mukasey was still breathing at the time, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to talk to the media.'

9. Ten minutes seems like pretty slow response for such a high official.
Too bad shooter wasn't in the audience. There would have been an entire emergency room in the parking lot.

18. DC ambulance service
notoriously crappy; call Chevy Chase MD for ambulance, if you're smart.

12. that is true. I have seen people come back pretty far.
I guess it will be a long road. Much longer than the remainder of time he has in the position.

6. Here is a LINK to the video and story quoting witnesses off the record...

"Mukasey's was noticeably shaking during his speech before he collapsed shortly before 10:20 p.m. EST. His security detail called 911. Mukasey was on the stage for 10 minutes being attended to by his FBI detail before medics arrived, according to a Justice Department official who was there. Mukasey was still breathing at the time, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to talk to the media.

An FBI official said Mukasey got stuck on a word during his speech to the conservative legal group, repeated it several times and then "went down hard."

A senior law-enforcement said Mukasey appeared to be talking when he was taken away. That official also spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the situation.

He was conscious during part of the ambulance ride to hospital, the official said."

7. It really struck me that the audience realized what
was happening immediately. If I hadn't known something was coming, it would have taken a second to register that something was seriously wrong, but man they were right on it.

I hope he's okay.

15. It sees like he stumbled over the word and then started slurring
his words before he went down...didn't look good.

Although I am no fan of his, I don't wish any harm to his life.

19. he stopped breathing
Look at the report where it says "he was still breathing at the time" -- that indicates respiratory arrest at some point, I think.
