Senate leadership role for Hillary?
This IS politico, so keep that in mind. And again, let's all bend over backwards. :eyes:

Senate leadership role for Hillary?
By AMIE PARNES & GLENN THRUSH | 11/20/08 7:05 PM EST

Uncertainty over Clinton’s potential Secretary of State appointment is causing talk of a Senate Democratic leadership position.

Uncertainty over Hillary Rodham Clinton’s potential appointment as Secretary of State is rekindling interest in the creation of a new position for her in the Senate Democratic leadership, according to Democratic aides.

Discussion of the “new leadership role” for Clinton has gone on “for a couple of weeks” – pre-dating this week’s negotiations over the job at State, said one staffer familiar with the situation.

“There was a lot of talk about having to do something for her,” said a Democratic aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “That seemed unnecessary when the State thing popped up.”

Now, some allies see such an appointment as a possible soft landing for the former first lady if she isn’t tapped for Obama’s cabinet — or if she rejects an offer.

The staffer said there’s been no discussion of a specific title for Clinton in the Senate leadership – but that the post being envisioned would be outside the five existing Democratic leadership slots.

1. She can do whatever she wants.
Hillary holds more power than any Democrat except Obama at this moment.

13. She has choices, but she's in a holding pattern until Obama taps her.
No point in starting something in the Senate if she is going to be SoS.

15. What land of fantasy are you living in? If she's in a holding pattern,
why all the whispers? I just googled 'Clinton drama', and eureka! 7,220,000 hits!

5. I understand the desire for that.
IMHO Congress is sucking right now, and Hillary has been a historic leader on domestic policy. She'd be great. I think she'd be a fine SOS too, but I agree, I wish Obama would make a move on this.

8. Seems to me PE Obama is waiting on Clinton to make up her mind.
I could be wrong but no one has dissuaded me of that impression.

12. The biggies often get announced last: State, Treasury and AG. nt

14. AG? That would be Eric Holder. And nothing on treasury. But this
crap about SoS, and the length and the whinging is getting stupid.

Senator Clinton needs to make up her mind and let us all move on. It's getting really tiresome.

6. Well, the music is about to stop and people need to sit down or risk being out of the game.
Anywhere. Just sit down. Obama has his hands full with America on fire in a ditch.

7. How about she focuses on becoming a great Senator from New York and....
work to rise in the hierarchy like the rest of the mere mortals do?

9. Getting Clinton fatigue?
I know I am. I thought Obama was our President-elect, the people's choice. Being a senator from New York should carry enough self-esteem for the average person. The Clintons are not owed anything for public service, nor is anyone else. If an offer has been made, I personally hope it is withdrawn for the sake of the new president and the new staff.
