Hillary Clinton to accept Obama's offer of secretary of state job
Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.

Obama's advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton's foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.

Clinton would be well placed to become the country's dominant voice in foreign affairs, replacing Condoleezza Rice. Since being elected senator for New York, she has specialised in foreign affairs and defence. Although she supported the war in Iraq, she and Obama basically agree on a withdrawal of American troops.

27. Actually, their coverage can be sketchy , and I think that they skimp on reporters
When Haider died, I saw an article posted here by the Guardian about Haider's "Special Relationship" that basically used an article from die Tageszeitung for all its information, so instead of doing their own journalism they summarized another paper's work. What also struck me is that because I had read the original article the day before, I could see that the Guardian was making bolder claims about the news item than were actually present in the original article. A good newspaper shouldn't be part of a game of telephone.

3. I'm beginning to think she is forcing this on Obama.
Why would anyone announce they are going to accept this when it is obvious she hasn't been fully vetted yet.

Do we really want someone this obnoxious as SOS? ARGH.

Why would bigots in particular go berserk over Hillary?
Maybe its people who dislike the Iraq war and don't want to obliterate Iran who are the most distressed.

39. If someone disagrees with her based on the issues,
they may mention that issue and express their displeasure in a strongly worded but respectful way, but their heads will likely not explode and they likely won't resort to name calling using slurs against women.

The sexists, however, will hurl a string of insults/sexist slurs a mile long and their heads will explode.

It is like the difference between having a strong opinion (disagree with her based on issues) and being obsessed to the point of mental health issues(misogynists).

19. The "bigots" here maybe, but hardly the freepers
here is a post that sums up what some of the freepish sites are saying...

I hope he does appoint Her Thighness.
Hill and Bill will be vetted and details leaked
Hill will be a pain in Zero's arse
Bill will cause some scandal (female related).

Life will be fun.

Limbaugh is just salivating at the prospect of a Hillary SOS.

That being said though, if Obama thinks she is the one for the job, so be it.

26. Tell that to Geoffrey Chaucer
NB that it's cognate with 'arsch' in German; the American variant is first recorded in the mid-19th century, but 'arse' predates it significantly, and ultimately has roots in proto-Indo-European.

28. In English it would depend on the rhoticization of the local dialect.
For example imagine a Bostonian saying "Get your Arse in the Car, we have a wicked Pisser to attend" What's that going to come out sounding like?

23. No, actually, those who respect Hillary suspect she'd pass a vetting process quite easily.
It's those people who bought the 16 year long right wing smear campaign against the Clintons (which was heavily trumpted during the primaries) who have "questions."

Obama is not a child, if he choses Hillary it will not be because of some mythical "forcing of the hand."

But for you to believe that would require you to remove the smear campaign from your mind.

A near impossiblity (16 years of brainwashing doesn't go away so easily).

25. This example of her diplomatic skills really stinks.
If she were truly suited for the job, she'd make Obama's choice easier for him, by keeping quiet, being calmly persuasive, and letting him do what he needs to do.

Instead she has riled up everyone with her presumptuous acceptance.

I have a bad feeling about her being SOS, and its not from old conspiracies but all because I've seen a lot more of her since she ran for President.

I haven't heard her say a thing about it except when she was asked, and even then she didn't say anything...and neither did Bill.

31. Remember when it was "leaked" that Biden would be VP?
Did Biden do that to FORCE Obama to choose him? Why didn't Hillary leak that she would be VP to FORCE Obama to pick her?

I wouldn't want someone who forced their way in and I would not want a president that could be forced. Best not to speculate...nothing good can come of it.

It was the Obama team who leaked Biden, because they were preparing people so we could all be on the same page and have a happy celebration. I imagine the same with SOS.

42. You really think he is that weak and easily led?
I hardly think the newly elected leader of the free world can be so easily "forced" to do anything by Hillary Clinton or any other Senator. Either trust his decisions or disagree with him, but to say he is being forced is to dishonor his integrity. If we want him to lead us for 8 years instead of just 4 years, it would be wise to avoid undermining his decisions.

by anonymous sources that have no accountability to anybody.

I have a suggestion. Let's make the Secretary of State anonymous. Given that we are ready to believe any anonymous source just like that.
