1. Well, I don't want to taste it but...
but I'll take a light wafting sniff, along with my Schadenfreude cocktail.

3. Oooo I ran into a woman today I hadn't seen in a while
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 04:28 PM by Erin Elizabeth
and she's SO upset over Obama's win that she's seeing a counselor. For real. She doesn't know where I fall on the political spectrum, we've just been friendly acquaintances for years. But she was SO damn bummed when I saw her today, she looked like she was going to burst into tears at any moment. Seriously. And normally she's a pretty cheerful person. So I asked her what was wrong and she teared up and said "Obama's what's wrong."

I was so confused by that, because I thought she'd say her dog had died, or her adult daughter was terminally ill, that I couldn't make sense of it at first.

"O-what's what?"

"OBAMA. You know, that...MIXED.....PERSON......who is SUPPOSEDLY going to be THE PRESIDENT."

Direct quote. That.....MIXED.....PERSON. She struggled to say "person." And "president." And how is it supposedly?

So I told her a true story: this morning at about 6:30 am, I was grumbling about it being Monday and everything I have to do this week and I got an email about a dear high school friend who finally lost her fight to cancer last night. On her 38th birthday. With two young daughters. Right before the holidays.

I assured her things could be SO much worse than a "mixed person" in the White House. She was just staring at me. So I asked her how long she's felt this way.

"Felt what way?"

"So...against....non-white people?"

She said she's not hateful, just a Republican. I nearly laughed. But she went on to say she found a counselor last week because she's going to need a lot of help to deal with this. A LOT of help.

My God. Get a grip, woman. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I didn't even go to a counselor in the eight years we had to deal with a president who had an IQ of a fucking amoeba. And I certainly had times when it would have been necessary.

So we get a good, SMART guy in there and she needs psychiatric help because his daddy was black. What is wrong with this world?

On edit, if DU will indulge me, I think I will post this as its own thread.

6. Wow. That was the most interesting thing I've read all day.
We don't get that kind of perspective here in Philly.

I'm glad she's seeing a counselor but I doubt very much that Obama or even politics in general is her problem.

And, hey, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. That is just awful beyond words. Those poor girls.

7. Thanks, it really did change my outlook this morning.
I mean, she's been struggling with this cancer for over two years, so it was expected. She was at home with hospice. But I was hoping she could make it through the holidays one more time.

Her husband has been an angel, caring for her all through this. She's out of pain now.

And my problems suddenly seemed very insignificant.

5. They seem pretty happy with the possibility of Clinton being SOS.
I can't wait to see what he does after he takes office.

A lot of military donated to Obama based on his promise of bringing change to our foreign policy. I hope he follows through.

8. That should be a red flag to anyone who thinks Clinton would be a good SoS.
Republicans are never gung-ho about Democratic appointments. The fact that they are about Hillary bothers me considerably.
