5. That's an accurate assessment by Chuckles Todd.
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 01:20 PM by TexasObserver
Bill has literally made a million a month the past 7 years, and his political efforts for big money interests have paid off handsomely.

If Hillary is the SOS (which I think is a great idea), it will alter Bill's ability to make the kind of deals he's been making. It will impact his library funding, too.

Hopefully, he'll be fine with the changes.

24. Obama, the president.
Or, he could hire you to do it.

Are you qualified? They're looking for people.

8. The media has to create division even where there is none. I think Bill would be proud
of Hillary as SOS.

12. TexasObserver raises the salient point a few posts before you- Bill has profited financially
from his days as POTUS by selling his influence.

Obama seems fairly intent on curbing this behavior and would frown on it. Especially for a high profile positions as SoS.

25. True. It's a legit concern, not an imaginary one. Bill must be on board.
My read on Bill is that he wants the best for Hillary and would toe the line to see her as SOS.

that the ceiling has been broken, but it would chip away in the CIC perceptions for women...I don't even know...these glass ceiling metaphores by gender experts like Todd and Mitchell confuse me sometimes. ;)

13. I just rewinded it. OK-he said you're (she's) NOT going to be breaking a glass
ceiling but continuing to chip away at the CIC perceptions that women have to deal with...

15. what was that he said about the "Lou Dobbs" crowd?
I think they were talking about the possibility of McCain/Obama work on immigration, but I didn't hear all of the Lou Dobbs reference by Todd.

19. I think Chuck has it exactly right.
In my view there are 2 reasons to make Hillary Sec of State:

1. As SOS, and part of the Obama administration, she won't be able to plot against him for 2012 run -- which I think she would likely do if she were to stay in the Senate. And if she refuses an offer of SOS, it's probably because she wants to run in 2012. The Clintons are vindictive -- ask anyone who has ever crossed them, including Bill "Judas" Richardson.

2. As SOS, Hillary could keep Bill in check as he travels the globe talking to world leaders. If he steps on the Obama Administration message, he would also be making it more difficult for Hillary to be seen as a successful SOS. Bill would risk making Hillary look irrelevant. She won't be having any of that and she will shut him down.

20. Yeah, she did a great job of shutting him down during the primaries.
What was it Bill said in FL, right before the election? Oh that's right, Obama said to me and Hillary about the financial crisis - Tell me what to do....
