1. Why not?
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 10:03 PM by Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
We have normalized relations with China, Russia, Vietnam and Libya. Plus we're about to give limited aid to North Korea.

2. Miami Dade County exile community is the only reason
That is why it has been bottle up for so long.

But nextGen Cuban-Americans voted heavil;y for Obama

6. The exiled mobsters and plantation owners are finally dying off.
I think the new generation of Cuban-Americans would welcome the chance to reconnect with their heritage.

3. As long as Cuba wants to normalize relations with us
This standoff is stupid. I don't think communism is good, but we aren't helping out the Cuban people at all by having sanctions with their government

11. Communism is fine, if that's what the people actually want.
It's not my cup of tea but to each his own.

That said, I agree that the best way to defeat a Communist country is to trade with them. The Little Red Book doesn't sound as motivational coming from an iPod.

4. Of course.
Our draconian embargo of Cuban goods and services is a worldwide embarrassment. We look petty for beating up on a tiny little island and foolish for not winning. It's time to realize that Cuba is a more decent country than Vietnam or China, as far as human rights, and normalize relations.

7. Considering it's all based on the personal grudges of the Bush Crime Family anyway
It's time for the shit to end. Fidel's not long for this world, and Raul's probably a short timer himself. Odds are there will be a post-Castro Cuba during the Obama presidency. Couldn't hurt to establish a reasonable dialog with a nation that's 90 miles off the US mainland.

21. Bill Clinton didn't normalize relations with Cuba either. Doesn't he deserve part of the blame?

Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 10:17 PM by Ozma
one of the best capitalist nations in the Americas. Lots of room for capitalist growth, 20-50 years of American tourists visiting.....rum and sugar production......legal marijuana production and dispensation, like in the Netherlands, key Hispanic American history going back longer than the USA's history. Wonderful family reunions, daily flights from major Southern US cities, cigars, tropical fruits, major opportunities for bi-lingual or other Latino-American folks to be employed at more than minimum wages, not to mention making Guantanamo something other than the disgrace of the US within the world.

Why would anyone NOT want Cuba and the US to be as close as Canada is to the USA?

Oh wait!!! Michael Moore told us that all Cubans have free health care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can't be close to a nation with free health care!!! <<<<sarcasm>>>>

13. It would be a brilliant opening statement to the world community
"Only Obama could go to Cuba"

Make it about trade and Tourism

Tit ie a staged pull out from Gitmo.

19. There you go. We could have a Cuban embargo surge.
Where not only do we ban trade with Cuba, but we could also ban trade with any country that trades with Cuba. It would stamp out communism from that country in a mere 15-20 more years.

15. The US has conducted a 50-year campaign of terrorism against Cuba
From the bombs the US gave to Batista to drop on Cuban cities and villages, to the Miami terrorists that have killed so many innocent people.
