the politicians talk about the bailout they never talk about the poor. Notice how they keep on giving money to the rich with no oversight...From what I can see the bush adm is giving all of that bailout money to the rich and they are taking the money and running...

Hint: worker-owners do NOT, I repeat, do not outsource their own jobs.

... to give that $700 billion divided up among the general public in the form of debit cards that could only be used to pay on existing credit accounts at financial institutions.

The banks would still end up with the money they need.

The debt load of Americans would drop a good amount.

And it would reduce the underlying illiquid financial instruments that are freezing up the credit markets.

Anything else is either a bandaid, or worse, a direct freebie to corporate america.

8. Not sure about a million, but it would have been a nice gesture
My favorite pet peeve since the bailout is the talking heads who claim those $600 checks in the Spring were worthless because a large number of people just ended up paying on debt they owed.

That should be a good thing, not something to bitch about!

5. Oh, they do refer to the poor -- they're the 'out' part of the bail out.
While the middle class has to bail, the poor are just out.
