78% of GOP Voters Say Next President Likely to Be A Republican
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/78_of_gop_voters_say_next_president_likely_to_be_a_republican

Forty-five percent (45%) of Republican voters are Very Confident that a candidate from their party will be the next president after Barack Obama, contrary to reports that suggest the GOP may be demoralized from the Democrat’s big win last Tuesday.

Another 33% of GOP voters say a Republican is at least somewhat likely to be the next occupant of the White House, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Put it all together and 78% of Republican voters say it’s likely their party will provide the nation’s 45th President.

Among all voters, half (50%) say it is at least somewhat likely that a Republican will follow Obama, while 33% say such an outcome is not likely.

Democrats understandably are the most skeptical, with just 31% saying a Republican victory following Obama is at least somewhat likely.

2. Let's wait and see how dumb America can be.
We've seen how dumb America was for 8 years.

Let's see if America now continues to learn from past dumbness.

3. If Obama, governs appeasing the Conservatives---the GOP
are correct. Given a real Republican and a Fake Republican
the people will choose the real thing.

The GOP believe Obama will fail and that puts them back in the
drivers seat.

This poll is not at all surprising.

4. The great republican miscalculation
Edited on Tue Nov-11-08 10:25 AM by JohnnyRingo
was that working folk's greatest concern was their taxes.

As a former working person I can say that I know how much it costs to eat, drive, and stay warm. I know the cost of rent, cable, and electric, and I know how much money is left at the end of the month.

How much do I pay in taxes? I'm not sure, but I don't recall it being the biggest bite out of my paycheck.

Wealthy Republicans just assume the capital gains tax is something everyone can rally around.

I don't think they'll learn anything new by 2012.

5. Election reforms needed
Be careful: next time around, their candidate too will refuse public funding and expect a LOT of money flowing in.

6. I think I may be in that 31% of Democrats who believe a Republican victory in 2012
is at least somewhat likely. I am reminded by the quote by Will Rogers:
"I'm not a member of any organized political party, I'm a Democrat!"

After the Democratic euphoria of the Obama victory wears off (amazingly, I think that has already begun) we will see the Democratic disappointment with Obama for doing this or that, then we will see Democrats getting mad because of what he is doing or not doing or not doing fast enough. Then we will see the hissy fits ("How dare Obama appoint this person or that to his cabinet!!!") and it saddens me to say that I think a good deal of this behavior by Democrats will be by Liberals. Republicans can simply sit back and watch us attack and eat our own.

I'm afraid it will also not be long until we will get back to one of our apparent favorite pastimes here: trashing our Democratic members of Congress for being spineless and not doing things exactly how we believe they should be done. I would be happy to see this not happen, but I am not hopeful.

8. Nothing in these results is surprising
People are asked whether the probability is higher that the next President is a Democrat. Consider the ways each happen:

The ways the next President is a Republican unless we win both of the next two Presidential elections. (Ignoring any tragic elevation of Biden) I would actually say that there IS some demoralization that only 78% say it is at least somewhat likely that they can win one of the next two elections. This is especially so if you consider that many will give the best possible answer they have.

How many here would NOT have answered days after Reagan's victory (and the loss of 10 liberal Senators) that the next President was likely or somewhat likely to be a Democrat. (We would have been wrong - but I know I did not think that the Republicans would be there for 12 years.)
