3. You can tell he has great affection for her. Look at how open and relaxed he is.
And this before a huge speech. I'm gonna love all visual representation of this first family for the next 8 years. What a joy it will be to not have to cringe every time the President is pictures. What bliss.

5. I thought it was so sweet the other night in Grant Park when
Biden stepped up with his mother, Obama stepped forward with Mrs. Robinson and the four of them waved together. The gesture and the message were so strong and powerful. Just lovely.

10. I was thinking of this picture yesterday and that I would imagine MO's
mother has been a surrogate mother to BO for the past 16+ years. My MIL, who passed away in March of this year, was like a mother to me so I can appreciate his evident feelings for Mrs. Robinson. I thought it was great that he brought her forward when Biden brought his mother forward.

13. Very nice.
I really like that photo. Barack's victory is wonderful in the political and social senses. But there is the added bonus of the individual, human side of the story.

The "First Family" has captured the nation's attention. A number of people have commented to me that Barack seems like "someone they know, without ever having met him. My younger son had supported John Edwards, until the first time he heard Michelle speak; since then, he has identified her as an important leader, though obviously un-elected. When he and his peer group (college students) listen that closely to Michelle Obama, it is a good thing for this nation.

Those beautiful little girls will remind us all of what the real goal of public service and the world of politics is all about. We need to move beyond anger, hatred, and the impulse to exact revenge. We must seek that newer world. Their world.

Can you imagine what this experience is like for Michelle's mother? What better example could there possibly be, of the benefit of moving beyond those negative impulses, and trying to make the world a better place for one's children, and all children, than this lady?

19. it will be interesting to see....
whether she actually lives in the White House
or in her own place, like she does in Chicago...
I read that she is fiercely independent
and hadn't made up her mind as yet...

15. if she's anything like the grandmas I know, she'll also keep Barack in line . . .
"What do you mean you can't make Sasha's birthday party? You just tell the prime minister that he'll have to come back tomorrow! My goodness, where are your priorities?" . . .
