The awesome predictability of Conservative spin

On October 12th, our TDS commentator James Vega made three predictions about how Conservatives would respond to an Obama victory. He predicted that they would argue:

1. “the American people don’t really support Barack Obama (they were tricked)…”
2 “true conservatism was not really rejected by the American people (just the overly timid and bumbling John McCain)…”

3. “The Obama administration will be described as basically “illegitimate” and conservatives will assert that they therefore have no obligation to support it”

Now here are some quotes from conservative leader Brent Bozell, interviewed by Fox News after he emerged from a major meeting of top conservatives today in Virginia:

1. “The American people are fiscally conservative, and the fascinating thing, Bill, is that Barack Obama ran as a Reaganite and won over the public as a fiscal conservative.”
2. “Conservatives didn't play a role in this campaign. This was a moderate Republican against a liberal -- a left-wing Democrat, and the left-wing Democrat beat the moderate Republican.”

3. “Barack Obama does not have the mandate to enact the left-wing agenda he wants to enact…”

Interviewer: what if some of these Senate races that still hang in the balance go the Democratic way? …Would you consider that a mandate?

BOZELL: -- There’s no question of the power that they now have in Washington. The point is that the American people are still on our side.

Geez, maybe we oughta see about getting some royalties here.

Also check out: CNN Does A Hit Job On Obama

Eight years of relatively no criticism of Bush, yet CNN is already trying to spin BS from Obama's first press conference. Maybe CNN doesn't realize that Bush is still in office (until Jan. 20, 2009), and there is still time for them to lambaste him for being the worst President ever, which includes his role in creating the current economic crisis.

edited for clarity.

2. Your president just hit 20% approval ratings - lower than
Nixon, Truman or Carter at their lowest.

So, go ahead and rush to embrace his policies even tighter for 2010 and 2012.

Then, when Democrats end up with 62 seats in the Senate after 2010 and pick up another 10-15 in the House...

3. It's particularly funny to watch Joe Scarborough do it. Yesterday..

he said that if Obama doesn't pick Larry Summers it is because he is beholden to the far left feminists in his party. I am so tired of the Republicans and Conservative way of framing things. He tried to do it with the Rahm Emmanuel leak and Chris Matthews schooled him.

They lost. They need to get over it.

4. They can't come to grips with having their
asses handed to them by a majority of Americans. One of the most pathetic was watching Tucker Carlson whine.

5. Unfortunately, this will only get worse.

The screaming has just begun. I just left a family gathering after a funeral and I was stunned by the words coming out of the mouths of my right-wing family. I walked up to my mother and several aunts and uncles and said "Hi" and was hit by a barrage of every neocon talking point. "Barney Frank and his cronies....Democrats caused this economy....blacks are going to rise up and take over.....Obama raised taxes on people making $40,000......he denies his "white half". Vile hatred coming out of their mouths. I started mocking them saying "Ohhhhh, he's a SECRET MUSLIM!!! He's gonna force us all to be gay socialists!!!" One aunt actually said I was right. I said "Wasn't it socialism when Palin got the oil companies to spread the wealth?" Her husband agreed, and the aunt said she LOVES Palin, she's "brilliant". This is the one that loved bush because he claimed to be a "Christian Conservative". Those are magic words to these people. I was only there 5 minutes but there was so much anger, I had to leave. They were so angry it frightened me. With a big smile on my face I said "You know what? You go ahead and be miserable, I can't listen to this." As I left (a restaurant mind you), they were yelling "You're going to get what's coming to you." This is my FAMILY! My Mom called me and said "Where are you? We saved a seat for you". I told her how disappointed I was and that I felt sorry for my family menbers and her. I am concerned about increased gun sales, the right-wing hatred and anger, the blaming, the blind devotion to right-wing ideology, etc. I fear it will get worse. Every move Obama makes will be criticized. There will be no "getting behind the president" for these people. Hopefully, the majority will drown out these idiots.

6. I feel for you. Unfortunately, it will take
a miracle to snap rabid wingnuts like those back to reality. Fortunately, they are outnumbered.
