Cancelling the debates?
Any way for bushco to do this w/o substantial political damage? Particularly w/ the swing voters. If so, how?

Any way to preempt this or make it stick harder to bushco? Cause I think they're going to opt out and it would be nice if the dems make it cost them as much as possible.

1. No.
It won't happen, it won't happen, it won't friggin happen.

There is NO F'ING WAY they can get away with cancelling the debates. It'd be akin to forfeiting the election.

8. He got away with STEALING the 2000 election.
He got away with preemptively attacking another country. He got away with LYING about WMD, Saddam/911 connection, Saddam WMD "PLANS", he got away with outing Valerie Plame's name, he got away with the torture of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib and he's NEVER been held accountable for ANYTHING in his life. He WILL get away with no debates. It just doesn't matter anymore. He can do whatever he wants and HE knows it. We're fucked.

2. w/o substantial political damage?
For crying out loud the guy fucking lies to the country about WMD and a saddam 911 connection and he has not taken any substantial political damage and the media is not going to go negative on him for anything....

3. I think any political ...
... damage he might (emphasis on the MIGHT) suffer from cancelling the debates would be far less than the embarassment he would go through trying to remain coherent in a debate. Not that I need to tell any of you this, but W doesn't do so well unscripted. I think he should be desperate to get out of those debates. Even if he has to agree to one, then fake a fall on the way to the stage.

4. Well i think that's why they might try to cancel the debates
To force the Dual Press conference mode of debate. Then President Bush can be very well scripted in advance and they don't have to worry about any troubling questions.

5. If * cancels, Kerry should run a faux debate.
He should find someone who is expert in the right wing-cabal-Fed Society-PNAC-NRA-CEO-born again-Pentagon agenda. That person should pretend to be *. They should have a faux debate with a faux president. That makes a triple faux. Right?

6. He could do that,
but the public will never see it. The major non-cable networks will likely not broadcast the official debates. No one will broadcast an unofficial one, and the commission on debates will NOT (I predict) endorse or sponsor that type of debate.

9. It's possible that C-Span might cover it for historic purposes. If enough
people talk it up and spread the word, the word would get out.

7. I think it will depend on how the VP debate goes
if Edwards does well and Cheney looks bad i wont be surprised to see the TERRA! alert raised and the other debates canceled.
