more strikes against false doc claim: AF tested Selectric Composer in '69
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 12:06 AM by expatriot
OKay this is AF not ANG but it increases likelihood that the Selectric Composers were in the system.

This from the Air Force Data Systems Design Center:

"A Service Test was completed for the International Business Machines (IBM) “Selectric” typewriter and Magnetic Tape “Selectric” Composer."

3. the idea that the military wouldn't buy something b/c it's too expensive..
...is ludicrous... they bought and continue to buy everything at "cost-plus"

2. I found this link earlier.

Same thing, I think -- it's obviously a link directly to Gunter AFB. I didn't read the document itself as a .pdf because it gave me a certificate hassle, but I looked at the Google cache and saw the same thing you did.

The Composer was an even more sophisticated machine than the basic Selectric I, II and III. And if the AF was buying them in '69, you know damned well they were in wide use by the early '70s.

6. Just imagine how many memos and docs they had to type during Vietnam

Of course the military had the state of the art in typewriter technology. They were probably typing 24 hours a day.. You don't do that with a cheap typewriter from Woolworths.
