I give you credit, sir. Your concession speech was the best I've ever heard you give. It was genuinely moving, and I imagine it was very hard for you to do. You wanted very badly to be president, but you sacrificed far too much in your attempt to get there. You sold out your honor by condoning cheap, dirty attacks and gutter politics. You sold out your credibility by picking a running mate who was dangerously unqualified for the job. You sold out your integrity by lying at every available opportunity, distorting and smearing as if your life depended on it. You wanted it too much, perhaps. What did the Republican party promise you, Senator McCain? What did they tell you? Did they say you could have it when Bush was done, if you played ball and rolled over like a good boy? Did they fill your head with empty promises? Watching last night, it seemed as if you had open contempt for your own hate-filled supporters and for Sarah Palin, the beast that you unleashed on this country. Did you choke on the words, Senator McCain, when you said you were proud of your supporters? Did it hurt when you sold the last of your sold to the Devil (or Karl Rove, same difference) for something that you would never get? You created this situation for yourself. You chose to run a filthy campaign. You chose an unhinged and inexperienced running mate. You chose lies over truth, smears over honor. And last night, you chose to end your campaign on the highest note possible. Good choice. If you thought you were unpopular with your party before, just WAIT. You're not going to have many friends there. You know what's funny? You know who is going to be your friend? President Barack Obama. Because he's bigger than that. He's bigger than the shit you threw at him in your desperation. He'll extend his hand, and lift you up, without so much as a word of repudiation, because that's the kind of man he is. Better than me. Better than you. You made the right choice last night, Senator McCain. You actually had me in tears, because I didn't think it was possible for you to even show humanity anymore. I can forgive you, because I can understand somewhat, how the desire for power can bring out the absolute worst in you. I can forgive you, and hope that you use your remaining years in the Senate to be a true maverick. You no longer owe the Republican party ANYTHING. Remember that, and maybe you can restore some of your tarnished reputation. I will not forget, though, Senator McCain. I will not forget the evil you condoned, the harm you could've caused, the lawlessness you have supported and encouraged. If you want redemption, seek it, fight for it. It can be yours, but you have to WANT it. Be the man that you have the potential to be. President-elect Obama. Just typing it brings tears to my eyes. I still can't believe it at times. You said it yourself, sir. We've come so far...but the journey is just beginning. It's up to YOU what role you play in that journey. I hope that, like last night, you make the good choice, and you end your Senate career on a high note. Mitch McConnell is going to try his hardest to be a thorn in our side. Turn that famous temper of yours on HIM, Senator McCain, and maybe I might actually find myself liking you a little.
