I for one loved Michelle's dress
I told Mr. DTBK it looks like a dress I might have worn back in my heyday (when some people told me I was the best-dressed person at the hospital where I worked - LOL).

Nowadays I prefer track pants and Obama t-shirts, but I guess I could still clean up pretty nicely if required.

I actually read something into that dress she wore last night. I think she was telling everyone that she was going to do it her way. Yep. I think there was a message there.

5. I liked it too. It was unique, daring. And decidedly NOT upholstery fabric.
I like that she took a chance on it. And I felt that the cut was flattering to her figure (and I loved how Malia's dress and jacket combo mirrored her mother's outfit, though in solid red).

But whatever. I realize I'm in the minority on this one and am happy to be so.

6. It was actually a designer dress
by Narciso Rodriguez (???)
She usually doesn't do designer duds, but this was a special occastion, and it was color-coordinated with her daughters' dresses, so it was fine with me.

8. I liked her dress
I've noticed she tends to favor bolder graphics and they suit her.

Red is a powerful color and people react strongly to it. It was a vote of confidence in her future job as First Lady. ;-)

What's nice is, I bet it didn't cost 150K.

But I like the cut and style. JMO though. In the end, she was still quite beautiful. There was a zoom when she was waving - and the breeze blew her hair just so... Stunning.

BBC was talking about her dress, they particularly did not care for it but everyone is a critic.

they said the black could have been representing her mourning for the passing of Pres. Elect Obama grandmother who just passed, and the red was representing the passion. But I thought she looked great, she will blaze her way in the WH.

73. The way it was made it figure-flattering.
Reversed it would have added 50 pounds to her.

(note: not that she really needs figure-flattering clothing, but still, that's the reason the colors were the way they were)

10. She was so beautiful. That dress was amazing. I can't wait to see her setting fashion
trends for the world. We could definitely use a change.

Every other first lady, female candidate, and candidates wives are still stuck in the '60s.
Who'd have thought Jackie would have had to shoulder the fashion needs of the political white women for nigh on 50 years?

11. It's a Narciso Rodriguez...

Am I the only one who thinks it looked about a million times better on the future First Lady than it did on the runway model? (Although, to be fair, I suppose it is the model's job to be emaciated and expressionless.)

67. It is. It was modified for Michelle Obama --
but all the fashion websites confirm it was the Narciso Rodriguez dress. She just wore a cardigan with it, and different shoes. Rarely are runway clothes worn w/o some modification...

12. I didn't like it but it may just have been that it photographed badly
I was watching the returns at a private party at a neighborhood eatery, and I have to say, her dress didn't get a very postive reaction.

However, I think some of it was just lighting. She looked on the TV we were watching as if she had a big red beachball sticking out from her stomach.

... it really wasn't my style.

Then again, I'm not a fashion maven.

I think if the idea was to match her daughter's dresses that it could have been done differently and looked better, but who really cares about the wrapping, when she is such a great woman inside?

I've heard her speak, I could care less what she wears.

My shallow side just came out in spades.

But if she makes it into the Fashionista parade of worst dressed in the Enquirer, I won't be surprised.

I think it required a bustier figure - Michelle isn't busty.

I would have preferred the purple dress. Or the one she wore when she gave her convention speech.
