My neighbors truck had its windows smashed out last night
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 01:09 PM by Psst_Im_Not_Here
We got a knock on our door last night, after the race was called. It was our neighbor's son, who has been an avid supporter like us. He had an Obama/Biden sign on the back of his truck as well as a McCain/Palin sign with a big X through it. Someone smashed the windows out of it. He went to all the houses in our area with Obama/Biden signs and told them to keep their eyes open. All of us tok down our yard signs, but, I refused to take the ones out of our windows...F%#@ them! Bring it!

I woke my son up for school this morning and the bass player of his band(Little garage high school rock band) had texted him and others to wear black today because America is done. He texted him back saying that's stpid. His "friend" texted him back calling him a babykiller! He then went to school and found the N word being thrown around. He's now realizing that some of is "friends" are racists. He's so upset.

Welcome to Colorado Springs, the storm begins...

1. I lost a friend this morning for the same reason. I feel for your son.
It's hard to realize that the depth of racism that still exists.

23. Thank you Midlodem
It's a hard reality for a kid like him. I talked a bit more about him downthread. He braved canvassing here with me and took on his classmates in civics class armed with facts he asked me for. He received an A+ this term in his civics class...my son!

Ever since he started school, teachers have told me that he has a very distinct sense of right and wrong and would end up president or an actor. I'm still hoping for an actor!

2. I was going to ask where you lived. Ick.
Sorry to hear about the truck, and it should be "its", not "it's".

Now that we have a Democratic president, it's time for good grammar and punctuation to reign!

9. Thanks
I'm usually very good with the its, it's, and its'. But, was upset this time around! My mother is a naturalized citizen from Germany and is a nut when it comes to grammar and spelling. We, as a family, have a nasty habit of correcting people. Force of habit. Luckily, I've learned not to do that anymore. But, I still cringe. LOL My mother always said that if she had to learn this god-foresaken language, we had to as well! Now to the there, their and they're...

10. excuse you
That was rather rude.

I mean it.

If you understood what he was saying, then he communicated to you correctly.

That IS the point of writing.

Remember, those who speak the Queens English, think that who don't need to fix their grammer, etc.

Do you speak the Queens' English? I don't.

14. Please.
I would think that anyone telling a story would prefer that it be done with impeccable grammar.

Yes, I was an English major, and my mother was an English teacher. I suppose it's a little difficult for people who didn't grow up that way to understand, but to some of us, bad grammar and spelling are really grating.

Now that Bush is going to be out, I look forward to the English Language Reclamation Project.

6. I had my car vandalized four years ago
It had a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker. I didn't sport a yard sign or an Obama bumper sticker this year for fear of it happening again.

18. That sucks!
I had my Obama bumpersticker vandalized this year, but, they did it in ballpoint! A little magic eraser and all was fixed.

11. Oh man - I lived in CS for 2 years - beautiful, close to a lot of great outdoors stuff, etc., but
I found it to be a conservative-fundamentalist hellhole in terms of social-political stuff. Fuck, it's the ONLY time I've ever gotten a snotty note BACK from a newspaper, after I emailed a letter to the ed. saying I couldn't understand how anyone could've been against the TOPS (parks tax) thing (about 10 yrs. ago), which was only for 1/10th of 1% (!) to go for parks/hike n' bike trails. They actually emailed me back and said 'we can't believe anyone is FOR it', but bwahahaha, they LOST!

Did you hear what an MCI employee wrote in the 90's when they moved their IT HQ from DC to Colo. Springs? After living there for a little while, he said he 'felt like I was living in a big loaf of Wonder Bread', and left. :^)

15. It's not that bad now
It's gotten to be more progressive over the years. Mostly because of the influx of new people. It leans more independent these days and the Dems have come out of the closet this year! But, there are still many "Focus on the Family" types as well as more Mormons and Jehovahs.

Obama bumper sticker in the deepest bloody-red heart of CA between the hours of 8:00 PM & 10:00 PM election night & only accessible by 3 other units = some neighbors about to see the wrath of me.

Taking a tire-wrestling-break & checking on my homepage here. I refuse to let that damper the pure joy of seeing Obama take the reins - I'm still on cloud 9!

17. That's what I told my son
Obama won, and they can't take that away from him. I told him that they will have to "get over it" and to not let them get to him, because that's what they want. They want him to feel as nasty as they do. He said if I hear the n word one more time, I'm going to lay someone out. I told him that violence is NEVER the answer. But, I hope I don't get a phone call...

Just a little note on my son, he canvassed with me for Obama. He was one of only 4 Obama supporters in his civics class. He took on the "republicans" in his class every step of this election and recieved an A+ for his first term!

24. What would Jesus do...
Just have your son ask these racist swine "What would Jesus do?" since it appears the "baby killer" meme is coming from religious zealot parents.

It's good he learned who his real friends are.

25. That's what I said!
Why would you even want friends like that?! They aren't being raised right.

It's just really tough for him, first semester in high school, still trying to find his place in the social structure of high school. I don't envy him. He does have friends who have progressive parents and they are his best friends.

and reveal themselves because they will be overtaken by their own hatred.

They will not be happy with the results.
