When do you think that McSame KNEW he was going to lose?
In my opinion, it was after the second debate. He & cindy ran out of there like it was on fire whild President-Elect & Mrs. Obama (I just LOVE saying President-Elect) stayed as long as anyone wanted to talk to them.

And you?

VICTORY!

2. The day before he was convinced that Palin would save his ticket.
That was the last trick in the bag and it didn't work.

8. Newsweek reported that his team knew it was over before the third debate, and that they discussed
whether or not to tell McCain.
They decided not.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/167581/page/1

On the Sunday night before the last debate, McCain's core group of advisers—Steve Schmidt, Rick Davis, adman Fred Davis, strategist Greg Strimple, pollster Bill McInturff and strategy director Sarah Simmons—met to decide whether to tell McCain that the race was effectively over, that he no longer had a chance to win. The consensus in the room was no, not yet, not while he still had "a pulse."/div]

9. I agree with your assessment..
After that town hall format where he thought he would kick Obama's ass and he fell flat, he knew. It looked to me last night that Sarahcuda was genuinely shocked, I think she believed all of her own propagandaa about the polls. They never leveled with her about their chances.

12. McCain knew very early on in the Primaries, the times were against him.
Palin was a gamble and he was hoping against hope Palin would pick up from a possible division of Democrats among women.

McCain wanted to be a latter day George Bush without the baggage. The times and his temperament destroyed him. Running against Barack Obama was the Republican worst nightmare.

13. when Ohio was called.
He probably knew he was a big longshot after the second debate dust settled. Its human nature to cling to hope, and longshots occur once in a while. I felt the last three weeks of the campaign were very stable, polling looked very good, all the gauges were in the green zone, and things were running smoothly for Obama. But like so many of us here, when Ohio was called I thought THIS IS IT!!

14. 2 or 3 weeks ago
I can't describe the exact interview, but there were a few times he talked in which he sounded like he knew he wasn't going to win. I don't know if his "internal polling" people convinced him he still had a chance the week before the election though; that might have turned him around to thinking he still had a chance.
