20. Obama means "little beach" in Japanese. Statue of Obama to be placed at City Hall!
I love this!

History

Obama means "little beach" in Japanese.<1> In the Ritsuryō period, Obama was the capital of Wakasa Province, one of entrance of continental culture. Many temples related to the Yamato Dynasty are located in Obama, and the city is called "Nara by the sea".

Statue of Barack Obama after victory in 2008 US election

As a result of the decisive victory by Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, the Mayor of Obama City announced to the Japanese press that he intends to commission a statue of Barack Obama to be put in front of the city hall "as a token of the great historical moment for the name Obama".<16>

25. Indeed. Here in Canada we had parties when Obama won.
And how could we not? The whole world wanted to see the end of the Republicans. A bunch of Vancouverites, including a good friend of mine, went to Grant Park last night. Interesting they showed Segolene Royal as one of the pics. I think all of Europe (with the possible exception of the guy who beat her, Nicolas Sarkozy) are very happy at Obama winning.
