Arizona and the "gay it up" solution goes down in flames.
Like other big cities, Phoenix is constantly trying to get it's downtown to work. Building convention centers, a ball park, basketball arena does not the downtown make. So they get the gurus of the downtown sucess stories from all over the country, and they give their suggestions. One is the "gay it up" part. The "creative types" as they call it, make part of the downtown fabric liveable in all good cities, even in Phoenix, despite it's Hellish heat, streets devoid of all life and simple shade.

The AZ Republic, no pal of intelligent thought, even persued this tact advised by the downtown consultants that bill by the hour.

Well congrats AZ you backwater fuckups! Even Goldwater had no problems with gays, but you just put the big FUCK YOU on the welcome to Arizona sign.

No downtown for you Phoenix!
