Poll question: Did Dubya use cocaine and was he busted?
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 05:24 PM by Junkdrawer
We seem to have a controversy concerning Dubya's use of cocaine and whether or not he was busted.

The story of the bust was in an infamous book "Fortunate Son". The book was "discredited" before it was published when it was revealed that the author, James Hatfield, was a convicted attempted murderer who served his time.

Hatfield's actual story was that Dubya was busted for cocaine but the record was sealed by a judge friendly to the Bush family. He was also sentenced to community service. Dubya's uncharacteristic service to an intercity program during 1972/1973 is well documented, but the official story is that it was altruistic.

Hatfield later claimed that his "inside source" for the cocaine bust was none other than Karl Rove. A later documentary, "Horns and Halos", detailed this and also Hatfield's subsequent breakdown and suicide.

So, given all this, do you think:

5. I'll bet he dropped acid, too in the 60's and has flashbacks
Here he is at Camp David, mistaking a man's shiny bald head for a teleprompter screen and waiting for its further orders.

6. Of course he used cocaine. Altruistic? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Imus this morning tried to make very light of any cocaine use at Camp David in the eighties, because EVERYONE used it back then. Oh, well that makes it okay then. :eyes:

The thing is, as Carville put it today, Bush has limited personal courage. He is not an altruistic person, obviously. If a person thinks rationally about it, the cocaine/bust story is neither ridiculous nor farfetched. This is the same guy who was driving drunk, etc. etc.etc.

I tend to think he got busted doing *something*, and as he did with the National Guard, let Poppy do some fanagling so that he did some community service as opposed to sitting his ass in jail like he should have.

8. I have a quarrel with one of ...
the statements in your post.

I believe Hatfield may not have committed suicide, or if he did commit suicide, he was driven to it by Karl Rove.

Hatfield wrote a book, "Fortunate Son," which was published posthumously. Most of the copies were destroyed, I think.

The last time I looked, there was one USED copy available at a huge price. That was a year or so ago.
