Jesse Jackson III as Barack's replacement?
Seems like he'd be a capable and appropriate choice.

3. While he's very close to the obama campaign

Blagoveigch apparently doesn't like him. The candidate's chances to run and win in 2010 will also need to be a consideration for whomever the pick is, and potentially, at that time they may need to distance themselves from the very person that appointed them.

4. Jesse Jackson Jr. would get crushed statewide IMO. I hope it's Pat Quinn (the Lt. Governor)

5. Do any of you live in Illinois?
Our politics are odd, and many of our Democrats are less than pure as the driven snow.

Jesse Jr. has clout in Chicago, but would not be well received in the rest of the state.

Tammy Duckworth or Dan Hynes would be good choices. I hope it is Hynes. Duckworth deserves a spot in the VA, and she would clean up some of the mess and neglect there.

Giannoulias is also a good consideration, but I think he is still a bit young at 32. Nevertheless, he has a great future in politics.

We have some great people, in spite of our corruption. Historically, we have always had great Democrats, alongside the dirty ones. I don't know what it is with my state. We have power. We are blue. But our state party is ambivalent about honesty in government.

6. That exchange between him and Buchannan was so funny today...
Pat was like, "Oh, by the way Jesse, do you want to be the next senator for IL?"

And Jesse fumbled around and tried to be diplomatic with his answer but finished by saying, "Thanks Pat!"

One of the things I learned during this election is that Pat isn't TOTALLY evil. lol
