More on alleged Bush cocaine arrest and community service (**1972**)
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 01:04 PM by Karmadillo
After reading DUer OldandintheWay's excellent theorizing on why Bush might have wanted to miss his Guard physical, I found this on Google. I don't know if it's true, but it's a lot more convincing than altruism in explaining why Bush ended up working for the Professional United Leadership League in *******1972********. Article also has an interesting excerpt from Helen Thomas' attempt to wring an answer about this from Scott "Liar? Yeah, that's me" McClellan.

<edit>

If Scott McClellan doesn’t know whether or not Bush performed community service while he was in the National Guard, he can look up this reference on the official State Department site: http://usembassy.state.gov/seoul/wwwhe906.html.

"During this period, George W. worked for a former partner of his father's, who had left the oil-drilling business to start an agricultural company in Houston that had interests in a wide variety of things, from cattle and chickens to tropical plants. George's job was to travel around the United States and to countries in Central America looking for plant nurseries his company might want to acquire.

"In the spring of 1972, he left this job and went to Alabama to work on the unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign of Republican Winton Blount. Returning to Houston, he became a counselor for African-American youngsters in a program called PULL (Professional United Leadership League). The program brought together volunteers from the athletic, entertainment, and business worlds to work with young people in a variety of ways. George taught basketball and wrestling and organized field trips to juvenile prisons, so his young charges could see that side of life and resolve not to end up there themselves.

"‘He was a super, super guy’ says Ernie Ladd, a professional football player who also worked with the program. ‘Everybody loved him so much. He had a way with people....They didn't want him to leave.’

3. Smirk didn't just suddenly take an interest in African American kids,
you can bet on that.

So, if he was working with project PULL, it was because his sorry butt HAD NO CHOICE but to go.

Also, I'd like to know more about why his Texas drivers license number was scrubbed and he was issued a brand-spanking new DL number altogether.

Hope these stories can break before Nov 2.

4. Someone in TX stll has to have the pre-scrubbed license info -
damning documents rarely disappear forever - somebody almost always hangs on to a copy. That's just human nature.

8. The time frame is just before the "Alabama" campaign and....
his failure to meet physical requirements? Is there a connection between the two stories?

9. Drug tests begin in Apr 1972. Bush last day of flying in Apr. 1972
And he needs to go to ALA. where they don't have a flying outfit. And he leaves even before he gets permission to go. And he misses his physical in July. Doesn't get it in Aug which was his last chance so gets suspended. Sounds like a heroic Commander in Chief to me !

12. Just a coincidence I'm sure.
Imagine if these facts applied to Kerry and not Bush. I doubt we'd see the same kid gloves treatment.

10. Hatfield (another suicide) said in his book that
Project PULL was community service.

http://www.davidicke.com/icke/articles/fortsonprint.html

Hatfield details how sources told him that Bush was ordered to do community service with an operation called Project P.U.L.L., a program for poor African-American youths in Houston, Texas. This is not disputed by Bush and, indeed, he has spoken about it publicly as used his "caring" gesture to support his presidential campaign, ironically.

We are asked to believe that George W. Bush, a hard-drinking, hard playing, romeo, driving his expensive sports car and flying for the Texas Air National Guard, suddenly dropped everything, worked voluntarily for this charity, and then suddenly left the project and went back immediately to the above lifestyle once again as if nothing had happened. Yeah, and Bill Clinton is a celibate nun.

Hatfield was alerted to the cocaine story just as his book was being completed. He read a story in the internet magazine, Salon, which reported on August 25th 1999 about allegations that Bush was "ordered by a Texas judge to perform community service in exchange for expunging his record showing illicit drug use and that this service was performed at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center in Houston."

Hatfield followed up the story through sources close to Bush, who had helped with other earlier sections of his book. They confirmed to him that the basis of the story was indeed true, but Bush had not been sent to work at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Instead his community service was performed in Project P.U.L.L, of which his father, George Bush, was a "benevolent supporter".

Madgelean "Madge" Bush (no relation), the director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center denied, quite rightly, that Bush junior had ever attended her establishment, but she refused point blank to answer Hatfield's follow up question:" Did Governor Bush perform court-ordered community service at ANOTHER agency in Houston or elsewhere in Texas other than the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center?"

There was a long pause, Hatfield reports in his book, and then she said:

"No comment because Madge Bush is not gonna talk to youI am not getting off into anything about George except he's the governor of Texas. That's all I'm gonna say about George W. Bush". With that she hung up.

16. DAMN! THANK YOU! I have been ragging on this for weeks!
What would bushits qualifications have been to look for plants?

Why hasn't he used his "green" credentials as PR to talk about how conservation friendly he was as the Pres?

BECAUSE...he was probably scouting cocaine which just happened to start making it's way into the US in a large way in 1970 when amphetamines were made illegal.

Additionally the US started using planes to catch drug traffickers (I think) in 1971 (it was the forerunner to the DEA programs)

IMO bush was popped for more than personal use and I wonder if that was relative to his grounding in TANG???
