3. watch county-city maps (e.g. on NYTimes) - cities are separate from counties
and most cities and some of the eastern and northern counties haven't reported yet

But, on the same poll it has Obama winning Ohio and Florida

18. Exactly - the heavy red areas are higher % reporting.
Arlington - 10%
Loudon - 10%
Fairfax - 3%
Prince William - 8%
Richmond City - 0%

Those are the heavy blue areas. No need to worry now.

My home town, half our precincts have reported according to the Virginia Board of Elections:

Obama/Biden: 57.02%
McCain/Palin: 41.84%
