The Effect of Charley, Fraces, and Ivan on Florida
Edited on Thu Sep-09-04 10:27 AM by ribofunk
If Ivan hits, that will be three major hurricanes this season. There is already extensive damage and the rebuilding may take awhile. It's a big psychological and economic impact.

Could this have an effect on voting patterns? On turnout? Should the Kerry campaign adapt its strategy in any way?

Any thoughts?

1. Perhaps everyone will vote using paper absentee ballots
and will make the results harder for the chimp to fake.

2. The first couple of weeks may be good photo-ops
but the enfeebled FEMA and the impact of 3 canes will mean cleanup will be all fouled up and anger wil eventually be directed at both Bushes.

5. That's Right, Maybe They Won't Perform Well
I was afraid that the cleanup would present the Bush administrations (federal and state) in a positive light -- George and Bush to the rescue.

I was also wondering whether the storms might reduce turnout a little. I mean, the election is two months away, but some people will still not be living at home and some polling places may have to be changed.

3. Live from Florida
I think it adds to the feeling that things just aren't right. The frustration from the storms compounds with the frustration about the war and the economy. The feelings of being out of control of the storms mirrors the feelings of being out of control of our country. One hurricane would be accepted as a fact of life on the Atlantic. Two, now that's a little much. Three is just overwhelming. I think psychologically, it's going to get people wanting change. Change in the weather, and change in the country's leadership. We can't change the weather, but by God we can change the leadership.

6. We can change the weather....
Small changes in the mean temperature around the globe can bring about major changes in weather patterns. An increase in hurricane formations is but one symptom of climatic change brought about by global warming. So, a change in leadership might also lead to a change in the weather!

4. Hard to say
Will the media spend more than a sentence on the fact that there are no funds in the Treasury to help these people out from the effects of their own trifecta? And what happened to those budget surpluses anyway? Seems we were pretty flush when the last guy left office, but we're looking at a half trillion dollar deficit this year. Wha hoppen?

7. Bush Family attracts disasters
Poppy -- Gulf War
Junior -- 9-11, Iraq
Jeb -- Election 2000, Caning of Florida

By accident or design these guys are bumblers and ignorant power usurpers. They are helped, and help out, their rich crones at the expense of all others.

BUSH WORLD!

8. As a Floridian
That will be 3 hurricanes in one month! Economic impact is already catastrophic, Will only get worse from here.

Won't change any votes in my opinion (people already know who they are going to vote for, I don't believe there are any undecideds left). Turnout will be what it will be (I believe if someone is going to vote or not vote, a hurricane is not going to stop them).

There is no strategy to adopt, Kerry should just keep doing what he's doing.
