Tim Robbins purged from the voting roll!
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 03:37 PM by Julius Civitatus
Even politically-involved celebrity Tim Robbins has been purged from the voters roll in his district. He raised holy hell with the polling place:

Apparently Robbins has been voting at that polling place for more than a decade, but today his name wasn't on the register. They told Robbins he had to fill out a provisional ballot but he didn't want to do it. An argument erupted between Robbins and the poll worker. Robbins allegedly got loud and the poll worker said he was calling the cops.

Robbins accused the poll worker of trying to intimidate him so he wouldn't vote.

Robbins went downtown to the City Board of Elections to get proof he was good to vote.

That's where a TMZ camera caught up with him. Robbins held up his papers and told the camera:
"This is what you have to do to vote... I had to go down to see a judge... My name was not on the roll, and I'm not the only one. According to workers, 30 people in 5 hours had been taking off the rolls. You can do the math on that. 6 per hour, per district across America..."

23. Same thing happened to me in 2004 in Brooklyn (red hook)
I even had the notice that the Board of Elections had sent me telling me exactly which precinct I was go to to vote.

Of course, when I got there, my name had been scrubbed from the rolls...didn't have any trouble in 2006. Wondering if I'll have any issues this year...

42. Apparently, I'm hearing of many reports of voters purged
and unable to vote in their district... here in New York.
WTF?
People that have lived and voted in the same area for decades, now they find themselves purged form their traditional voting place.

Something smells in this.

49. Oh, some shit is going down - he was actually on the roll, but the worker said he wasn't....
...either that poll worker was lying, or someone was playing with the books between the County records office and the polling station.

There needs to be an investigation for sure!

What news channel have you been glued to for the last month? There's all kinds of evidence illegal purging has been going on all over America. His estimate may not be spot on, but it's a lot closer to reality than your sweeping statement that it isn't happening at all. "No evidence", you said.

Wow.

rolls. It's our random good luck that such high-profile celebrities are among those who have been screwed over by Republcian dirty tricks, because that's the only way that these election theft tactics are going to get reported on by the MSM.

I have been purged twice, in the same district, in the district where I am precinct captain. Every year I go in to the registration office. Every year I ask them specifically if there is any current possibility of my being purged again. Every year I ask who specifically would be responsible if my right to vote was infringed.

I took my screen name from his, that speech, which seems ever so long ago. He spoke out against the invasion of Iraq when so extremely few of his contemporaries had yet to find the courage. I am betting he has just few a new sacred cause, and I will cheer and applaud at every sentence and gesture he makes in that cause for the future.

'A Chill Wind is Blowing in This Nation...'

Transcript of the speech given by actor Tim Robbins to the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on April 15, 2003.

TIM ROBBINS: Thank you. And thanks for the invitation. I had originally been asked here to talk about the war and our current political situation, but I have instead chosen to hijack this opportunity and talk about baseball and show business. (Laughter.) Just kidding. Sort of.

I can't tell you how moved I have been at the overwhelming support I have received from newspapers throughout the country in these past few days. I hold no illusions that all of these journalists agree with me on my views against the war. While the journalists' outrage at the cancellation of our appearance in Cooperstown is not about my views, it is about my right to express these views. I am extremely grateful that there are those of you out there still with a fierce belief in constitutionally guaranteed rights. We need you, the press, now more than ever. This is a crucial moment for all of us.

(...)

Susan and I have been listed as traitors, as supporters of Saddam, and various other epithets by the Aussie gossip rags masquerading as newspapers, and by their fair and balanced electronic media cousins, 19th Century Fox. (Laughter.) Apologies to Gore Vidal. (Applause.)

Two weeks ago, the United Way canceled Susan's appearance at a conference on women's leadership. And both of us last week were told that both we and the First Amendment were not welcome at the Baseball Hall of Fame.

A famous middle-aged rock-and-roller called me last week to thank me for speaking out against the war, only to go on to tell me that he could not speak himself because he fears repercussions from Clear Channel. "They promote our concert appearances," he said. "They own most of the stations that play our music. I can't come out against this war."

And here in Washington, Helen Thomas finds herself banished to the back of the room and uncalled on after asking Ari Fleischer whether our showing prisoners of war at Guantanamo Bay on television violated the Geneva Convention.

A chill wind is blowing in this nation. A message is being sent through the White House and its allies in talk radio and Clear Channel and Cooperstown. If you oppose this administration, there can and will be ramifications.

55. NYC elections were run by REPUBLICAN PATRONAGE HACKS
I was listening to a liberal newstalk radio show in NYC yesterday, and they mentioned that Mayor Bloomberg was infuriated with the seemingly purposeful incompetence of the electoral commission. Bloomberg was a Democrat who switched to Republican to run for mayor (ie to skip over the "line" in mayoral politics) and then left the repugs to become an Independent.

Anyway, they mentioned that the electoral commission consists of patronage hacks appointed by former repug governor Pataki.

So yes even in ultra blue New York City, the elections were run by repugs.
