I asked my sister why she is voting for McCain
The first thing she said He's a Muslim, I said that is B*ll Sh^t. then it was his experience, ok, I can perhaps understand that one. Then she said McSame was in the military and he knows how it works. I asked what he did besides wreck 4 or 5 planes and end up as a prisoner of war. I can almost respect that though I don't thing it qualifies him. I asked if she liked Sarah Palin, or is she qualified "no" was the answer. Sheesh!!

From there on it went into all of the internet crap the neocons have tried to jam down our throats. she would not believe he's not Muslim, and I even said not that that should even make difference if he is. Rev Wright came up, then he didn't put his hand on the bible when he was sworn in to the Senate, and he put his hand on the Quoran. She wouldn't believe me when I told her that was BS and told her the truth about that. She made mention of his name, that he didn't wear a flag pin... I had to tell her that at that very minute McCain was speaking at one of his rallys and he had no flag pin on.

I told her about Obama's endorsements from newspapers and she said they were all liberal. I even sighted the Economist. I told her about Obama getting together with his economic advisors and having a press conference while McC was floundering around with photo ops doing nothing.

Then she reiterates "he's a muslim and some people think he's black".

I feel like such a failure

1. Some people 'think' he's black?
I don't think the failure is your fault.

8. I have to agree
This is on your sister, not you

I am very sorry that my brother who lives in Florida is voting McCain.

I got so mad at him during Vietnam when he was so pro-war and so unsympathetic to my students who were returning from Vietnam disillusioned. I finally realized that if had been in that war the way my students had that he could not have taken it psychologically. But I am glad he did not have to find that out for himself.

I would be shocked if she voted for Obama.

not to vote for Obama. I think McCain supporters now fall into four categories: Rich, Racist, Religious, or stupid. Whichever one of those your sister is...it isn't your fault. I,too have a sister who is voting McCain. She is all four of the above!!

16. most of the old biddies i work with are racist and won't vote for obama
mouth breathers to the end. i just smile
when they complain about the contents of
their 401k's.

the worst one says she voted for bush twice.
once because she didn't like gore, and the
other because we were in a "war." she said
to me today, "you think things are bad NOW.
wait until obama wins."

i hope to be able to remind her of that
under better circumstances. then again, maybe
i'll get lucky and be working with folks with
iq's above the single digits by that time...

18. I know... I can't wait til all the nuts I work with...and my sister
find out that life won't end when Obama is President. In fact, it will probably improve for all of them! Although...my sister is one of those who will see her taxes go up! Oh well, sucks for her! :)

21. i hope her taxes go up a LOT! sorry, i'm bad...
it is frightening how many supporters mccain
seems to have in palm beach county. bumper
sticker wise at least. all of the folks
i was in line with at early voting seemed
to be happy hopeful obama types, except for
two.

out of five people i work with, three don't
like obama for really stupid reasons and two
will vote for obama. three against two is kind
of scary to me. i hope it's an abberation, but
this is the bermuda triangle, after all.

7. When people are determined to embrace idiocy that confirms their prejudices, you can't help them.
These type of people can't be swayed by any evidence, because they really have a need to believe this kind of shit about Obama. Or else everything else they've believed their whole adult lives is wrong, and they can't face that.

10. My brother said the same things. Forgive them. For they are lost in darkness.

There's no point in trying to talk to them. They are lost in the neocon world of the hate e-mail.

The way it works is....they get tons and tons of hate e-mails about Barack Obama, and Michelle Obama, and anyone else who has anything to do with the Obamas. They, in turn, forward those on. Then they get more hate e-mails, which they forward on.

After months of this (it's been going on all year...since it became apparent that the black guy MIGHT actually win the nomination!), they are brainwashed beyond repair.

They won't recover for years.

The mantra:
Muslim.......muslim. Did he mention that Obama is muslim? Hussein. Muslim. Michelle is a white-hating black activist...she wrote a paper in school about it. Barack Hussein...Muslim.

They know better. The real reasons are: Barack is a Democrat, and they ALWAYS vote Republican (it's just a perk that they get to trash the Democrat even more 'cause he's a black muslim). AND Barack is black. But mainly 'cause he's a girly-man Democrat (their view), and they hate Democrats.

23. My parents are lifelong old time repubs I can accept that but
My dad watched a cd that came in our newspaper titled "How to fight radical Islam" I don't repsect that.

I agree they do know better. They may be fiscal old time Republicans but times have changed.

12. People who really believe that wearing a flag pin should be a criterion
used to judge fitness for office are really beyond help.

I'm pretty shocked by the number of people who claim to dislike Palin but want to vote for the McPain ticket anyway.

29. You did what you were supposed to do: you gave the effort
Many of us have been in your spot - although not often has it been a loved one. What can we do? Keep using the truth to drive out the lies people have been told. Four years from now, your sister may see the light. Its happened before. Just remember to be a good friend to her, despite her confusion.

FYI, the pic of Obama getting sworn in (by Cheney) is available online:

By contrast, Rep Ellison insisted on have a Koran the same day. You can clearly see the difference:

You might want to gently ask her, if Obama's opponents made such an effort to lie about this, what else have they been lying about, and why?

I can't believe she didn't do the research I told her to do a month ago. She'd rather believe the lies and crap she's heard. I just want to smack her. Sorry, but I'm ticked off that people are so stupid.

32. I got my mother to vote Obama, BUT
she justified it by stating "He's half-white! Why do people insist he's black?" She's 80 and grew up in rural SC, so I try to be kind and at least she voted for Obama!!!

My brother, unfortunately, is a lost cause. He listens to Rush during his lunch hour everyday, and gets all his talking (yelling) points from him. Brother & I don't talk politics anymore; it gets ugly.

Some people are just lost. Gone. Unreachable. We either make peace with it or eject them from our lives.
