... for her to have any future (assume it's possible for a second), doesn't she have to release those medical records?

I'd also like to add that I'm glad we were able to pick off one of the GOP's "rising stars" this year while still getting Obama in a landslide

2. I've been convinced for some time that they'll blame this loss on Palin ...
She go down in history as McINANE's scapegoat ... as if he really needed one? ...

3. Her supporters - and hate radio - are going to vehemently fight back against that allegation though.
Frankly, I'm looking forward to the coming war between the two factions :)

13. I'm interested in this as well.
I'm sure there have been popularity polls that I've missed - but with all that's come out about her behaviour on the clock in AK she can't possibly be as popular as she once was. Plus the aura of Stevens should be hanging over her - I think she supported him up until someone told her not to.

9. I respectfully disagree for a few reasons.
1. The rethugs have to base their future on somebody. She is only 44 and is already the darling of the far right.I think she could do anything short of giving Bill Clinton a public BJ and the fundie nuts would still love her. I don't think her base cares about the medical records.

2. If Obama looks very strong for the 2012 election, they'll want a sacrificial lamb for the slaughter and save the people with a REAL future in presidential politics for 2016. She could well be the rethug nominee in 2012.

3. She is still from a very conservative state. If she doesn't have a future in presidential politics, she could probably win a second term as governor and then run for the house or senate and win. She'll either have a Democratic senator to challenge in 2014, stab Lisa Murkowski in the back and run against her (and try to have a perfect score against the family) or go for the house seat.

4. I kinda hope you're wrong about her career being over. If she's offered up on any kind of national forum again, it'll be SO much fun to see her used as a figurative punching bag again!

PEACE!

12. I tend to agree with you MarianJack, I would add...
...that they(Repubs) will hide her away for a few months, makeover, brainjob etc...school her on their way of doing things...some crash courses and then release it back into the wild....with certain hidden puppeteers.

15. Hi MarianJack!
Thanks for the well thought-out reply.

I like your last point. I do think it's over for her but I'm happy to be wrong on that given your point about how incredibly easy it would be to drag up everything that happened during the McCain campaign and just lob it all at her.

As for point 3 I wondered elsewhere in this thread if her popularity will sustain itself given what's come out about her during the campaign, and I'd also toss Stevens on top of that as well. I'm just not smart enough to know how it all effects her with Alaskans.

Also, you opened my eyes to one thing - you are probably right about the base not caring about anything in those medical records.

Thanks again for the post!

...isn't good to see Alaska's views. I'd love to see Alaskans kick her out on her ass in 2010.

Found this - it details how her popularity among Democrats and Independents has crumbled. So hopefully you are right and she is out in 2010.

11. She is being propped up by giants in the Republican party. I'd like to think she's
"done", but I don't think so. She is the type of woman they want to push hard to be in political office. I think they will try to polish her up and put her up again in 4 years.

And, no, not having the medical records won't hamper her. I think that was proven this time around. If there was no outrage for it now (and there wasn't), then there won't be in the future. Unless, maybe she has a heart attack or something otherwise changes her health significantly.

I'm also afraid of Michelle Bachmann. The republican party leadership really want Phyllis Schlafly-type women to run for office and are prepared to support them in the longterm.

14. I turned on one of the local RW talk radio stations this morning (Mark Larsen) on
the way to work just to hear their spin on the day before election day. To my surprise they were busy throwing Sarah Palin and the Christian right under the bus. They were blaming McCain's coming loss on her and on the republican's commitment to the right to life crowd. They were saying the GOP lost too many women because of it and they were calling for the GOP to kick out the religious zealots.

I only listened for a couple of minutes before I couldn't take anymore.

A RW host giving it to his own audience for being the problem? That's a new one!
