why not give the fundies one state
where they can all move to and where the constitution doesn't apply and they can create their own christian fundamentalist state. In exchange they stop bothering us. also they have to give everyone currently living there a free pass to move out if they don't want to stay.

I vote for Utah or Texas. Easier transition...

14. When I visited Alaska many years ago......
I came away thinking, while it is a beautiful state, it is the last refuge for misfits--not romantic James Dean type misfits, but people who just can't get along with anyone else.

18. I don't think Ms Thang will be warmly welcomed back home after this is over.
There was another ethics complaint filed against her plus the abuse of power "thing" is still viable. Also apparently the Alaska Congress comprised of a majority of Republicans is furious that McCant took over the state in such a vile way after she was nominated for VP. Ugly politics in such a beautiful state.

11. They've been trying to take over South Carolina but they can't get enough fundies on board.
It turns out that when fundies are asked to actually do something inconvenient for their faith - like move or donate money - they sit on their hands. Fundies appear to be real good at forwarding emails and voting Republican, and not real effective at anything else.

DAMN, what is the major malfunction here? Texas was a solidly Dem state for a LONG-ass time and it's been my family's home since before it was a state. Motherfuckers can't have it. Why would you subject all the NORMAL people in Texas to being the official fundie state? That's sick. We're in the process of taking this great state back. People better recognize.

Edited: crazy ass fundies can have MARS.

41. While this seems like a solution which would make everyone happy, even if it's impractical
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 10:22 PM by kenny blankenship
it can't really make Fundamentalists happy. Not really.
Once long ago I heard someone explain the Fundamentalist insistence on school prayer in a way that really illuminates what moves them:

Fundamentalists typically complain that the state takes their children away from them for several hours a day and teaches them Godless science etc. and their religious freedom is not being respected because this practice interferes with them making sure their kids observe all the rules of their religion and give God his due. So, they say they are within their rights in demanding that the state force kids to pray during school hours at regular intervals. But in truth it's not that the Fundamentalists want the state to force their kids to recite prayers during the day in public school. Their kids are already reciting prayers during the day in public schools and in their parochial schools, and nothing stops them from doing so. They don't need any changes in the law for that. What they really want is for the state to force YOUR kids to recite THEIR prayers in the public schools. Unless they can make the public school teacher or principal lead all the students in prayer, your kids are "getting away" without worshipping their God. That's the goal, forcing others to bow to their God. If people can ignore their God and aren't forced to do obeisance to God in public, then the Fundies squeal about their religion being suppressed. God and God's people are either in total control, or they're "being suppressed".

Separation and local autonomy would never be enough for these people. They don't want their own little preserve to do things their own way in freedom. What they're after is supremacy over the rest of us.
