Obama Rally Photos -- Des Moines, IA -- 2008-10-31
Took me a while to get these posted, what with trick-or-treating and Halloween parties and whatnot.

Anyway, it was beautiful in Des Moines yesterday.

Big Signs

I thought these guys were secret service until I looked at some zoomed pics. They're DMPD. I'm not a fan. I'm disappointed to see them handling something important like this. The only thing they excel at is hassling teenagers.

Tom Harkin had a great line, something like "Everything you need to know about this election, you learned in driver's ed. If you want to go backward, put it in 'R'. If you want to go forward...(crowd joins in) PUT IT IN 'D'!!!!"

Governor Chet Culver

Some guy

Crowd pics. A lot of young voters were there. It's not obvious from the pics, but I'd guess at least 25% were under 30.

10. These pictures make it look like I was a lot closer than I was.
They were all taken with zoom and heavily cropped and resized. I was probably 150 feet away in actuality. I took over 100, maybe 25 came out good.

None of my pictures from last summer's rally came out because it was night time, and my camera plain sucks in low light.

12. I didn't notice her when I wa taking it.
But once I viewed it full-size I thought the same thing: "Damn, it's Laura!" It was Halloween though, so who knows?

I also didn't notice the McCain signs in the window in the background. I cropped them out of most, but they're still there in a few. What can I say, it's going blue but it's still Iowa after all.

9. Ok that's it! That rally didn't have 4,000 bussed-in high school kids?
I'm really upset!

11. The kids there were really fired up.
Obama said something along the lines of "You may have heard John McCain calling me names" and a high-school kid next to me yelled out "Scallywag!" Don't remember if Barack reacted, but everybody around us laughed.

14. It was a fun day.
But between the rally in the morning and trick-or-treating at night, my feet are killing me. And I woke up this morning feeling like I'd smoked too much the day before. Thing is, i quit smoking almost two years ago.
