I live in Muskogee County, in which we have approximately 43,000 registered voters. Usually we have approximately 1000 people that vote in the three day early voting period. Yesterday 1,476 people cast their ballots. Our election board secretary is making a trip to Oklahoma City today to pick up more ballots because he only requested 30,000 (43,000+ registered voters) not expecting any increase from 2004.
The media has turned a blind eye to Oklahoma since it has a history of being conservative in it's politics (think Inhofe, Coburn). Neither presidential candidate has campaigned here.
I see a much tighter race here than is expected. Being in the bailbond business, I see Joe SixPack on a daily basis. Joe is pissed at the Republicans even if he is one. One Joe told me he was for McCain until he picked his running mate and the economy crashed. He is quite prejudiced but said he would vote for the (insert racial slur here) because he would rather vote for him than the party that would surely raise his taxes, take his Social Security and most likely start another war somewhere in the Middle East. After chastising him for his insensitivity and rudeness I thanked him for considering my candidate.
I doubt Democrats will win Oklahoma but they will be getting a lot more votes than they expected.
