Schwarzenegger's own effort to raise the sales tax didn't stop him from slamming Obama's proposals, which the Democrat says would reduce taxes for 95 percent of American workers.

Playing on the McCain campaign's recent efforts to paint Obama as a socialist, Schwarzenegger recalled his own childhood in Austria, where he said socialism killed opportunities. That, he said, prompted him to flee to the United States, where he made hundreds of millions of dollars as a Hollywood celebrity.

"Now Senator Obama says he wants to pursue the same spread-the-wealth ideas that Europe had decades ago," he said.

Schwarzenegger's wife, Maria Shriver, is a Democrat and has endorsed Obama, and he previously has said either candidate would be an improvement over President Bush — for whom he also stumped in Ohio on the eve of the 2004 presidential election.

He even told interviewer George Stephanopoulous he would consider a job offer from a potential President Obama after his term ends in 2010.

"I would take his call now, I will take his call when he's president — any time. Remember, no matter who is president, I don't see this as a political thing. I see this as we always have to help, no matter what the administration is," he said.

But after offering Friday to help the lanky Obama beef up his "skinny legs" and "scrawny little arms," it's unclear whether such an offer would be extended.
