How do you plan to spend Election Night? Here's what I'll be doing:
I won't be on DU, not only because it will be a madhouse, and probably agonizingly slow (as will the entire Internet, from all the traffic).

Mrs R goes to bed early, so I'll be parked in front of the TV starting at about 8 PM because I won't want to miss a minute of the historic occasion we're about to live through.

I'll have to resist the urge to yell "HOT DAMN" because people will be asleep upstairs, and will have to resist the urge to jump up and down too much because of the blood clots in my leg.

But I'll have tears in my eyes, probably at more than one point during the evening. I won't be able to help it, seeing my beloved America FINALLY growing up, and electing a half-African, astonishingly intelligent, young, and honest President.

I will be more proud that I voted on that day than I have ever been before, because I'll have been part of one of the most significant events in American history.

I've long said that what America needs is a lesbian black woman in a wheelchair as our President, if only for the fact that she'd bring a different perspective to the office on so many levels.

That's not going to happen any time soon, but look at the changes Mr Obama will bring, besides providing us an end to the nightmare of the last eight years:

bushyboy: white-bread child of privilege.
Obama: Half-African child of a broken family.

bushyboy: Skates through Yale because his family gives Yale big bucks.
Obama: Works through Harvard on his intelligence and hard work.

bushyboy: Skated through life after college because his rich family bails him out every time he fails at something (and he fails at EVERYTHING).
Obama: WORKED through life after college, using his intelligence and energy.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

I'm telling you, this election is like no other in the history of this country. We cannot even compare it to Kennedy's election, as tempting as that may be, because remember, Kennedy was from a very wealthy family.

This time, it's different.

1. I'm spending the night with dear friends. there will be quite
a few of us. We're going to eat and watch and drink champagne, and we're going to set off fireworks.

2. I will be taking the day off from work ... voting, then watching
I'm going to buy at least one bottle of GOOD champagne
and set my DVR to record the historic evening. Hopefully
my S.O. will be with me (he's not as interested in politics
as I am, but I think he'll be willing to indulge me on
election night) and we will be able to toast the TRUE
beginning of the 21st Century (and the Age of Aquarius).

4. I'm a late nighter so I'll be staying up and savoring it all. After it's official, I'll stay up more
I don't know how much I'll be posting on DU that night, although I'm sure I'll be running back and forth from the TV to the computer to check on DU regularly. I just want to experience a fucking blowout Tuesday night and smile for a month afterward.

6. This time it will be earned on merit.
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 06:10 PM by yellerpup
By smarts and hard work and fearlessness. I'll be at the polls from 5:30 AM to however long it takes after 9:00 PM to get the vote counted and secured at my precinct. After that I'm going home for a slice of the sweet potato pie I'll make on Monday night and I'm going to cry in gratitude (and probably exhaustion) when the vote comes in because we will have elected That One, the person who will help us achieve the change we need. GObama! :dem: :dem: :dem:

Edited because I left out a word.

21. God damn, you made me laugh out loud. And, not only will they NOT get a chance to
fuck HER, they'll never have a hope in hell of even coming close to the remote possibility of porking ANY woman even 10% as physically attractive as she is, losers that those wankers are.

My opinion? Yeah, she's not bad looking for a white girl, but damn if I'd be able to listen to her for more than two days before I'd be paying for a new identity so she wouldn't be able to find me after I disappeared.

I'll be following the early results on my Blackberry. From that point on I'll still be on the computer but glued to MSNBC. It's going to be one helluva night.
