The most vile anti-Obama editorial in America.
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 02:13 AM by Meldread
EDITED:

Screw it. Just delete this thread.

I swear, I can't stand this place now. I come here because I live in an ultra conservative area of America, and have very little contact with ANYONE on the left in day-to-day life. I try and share something from my local newspaper, and all I find is more vileness here. It reminds me of why I left after the primaries. I come here to be among people who can at least sympathize with my world view, but apparently you can't even find that here now. DU used to be a sympathetic community years ago when I joined.

I guess everyone here thinks all the posts are from New York or Massachusetts.

3. Because I wanted to vent.
I had no one else to vent toward and wanted to share just how vile the Republican base is, and what a sizable number of individuals in Virginia are reading right as they head out to vote.

If you think what he wrote was bad, you should have seen the letters. I am willing to bet he saved them for weeks before putting them in the paper.

4. Can you change the fucked headline?
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 02:02 AM by FrenchieCat
You are only attracting every freeper in the blogosphere that comes to DU for dirt, to lift and then copy and paste this shit all over town.

Why would you even want that?

Almost like you are providing a place for those to come and have a smear email campaign shopping spree! Geeze!

2. The first one is vile, the second one is just dumb and incoherent.
Either way, this Coleburn fella doesn't deserve whatever salary he makes.

7. He and his son own the newspaper. His son is the Mayor.
I can't wait till Christmas. He gets so angry around Christmas time, because you know how liberals and their war on Christmas is... it just ruins it for everybody. :eyes:

But yeah, this idiot fills half the local paper - the ONLY local paper - with his rants like this every week.

5. "Americans were distributed"?? "...the economy is in dire straights"?
"...he hand his fellow liberals"?

Dayum, if these news organs can't even afford to pay a decent copy editor, no wonder they can't afford a literate columnist.

amazedly,
Bright

9. Please repost your OP...
You're in good company here & no one wants you to be silent.

Just understand that by posting opposition materials - the opposition is strengthened. There is little acceptance for this on this board now. ...It's not personal to you.

10. We are going through really crazy times. Because you can hide behind your anonymity...
... a lot of people act out here and at other sites. Maturity is no guarantee here or elsewhere. I survived Indiana for 13 years. I think I can relate to this situation.

If the comments here piss you off sometimes, just do what I do... walk away for awhile. I don't post much between elections. This is a place to vent. Some vent better than others.

Sometimes care for a situation is misunderstood.

Chill out... I am sure you're okay.

11. Yes, I'm fine.
I'm just angry that I spent over 15 minutes typing out the editorials directly from the newspaper itself, and the general response I was expecting was anger at the asshole who wrote them, not at me for posting them.

I posted them here because I wanted to share what people from my part of Virginia are reading right before they go out to vote. It was sick, vile and twisted. Flat out distortions of the truth and lies. It's the only local newspaper and the only way to keep up with the local news, so pretty much everyone who is voting in this area has read it or will read it before the 4th.

And as vile as what the editor of the newspaper wrote, the letters he published were much worse. He literally filled two pages of the paper with anti-Obama letters.

When I came to DU in 2002 I viewed it more like a support group and a community of like minded individuals. Overtime, it's changed, and become something else entirely.

13. No, because in retrospect I don't want to...
...empower the assholes voice. I don't want people coming here, lifting the material, and then having it posted in other places. I don't want this guy to be empowered or to have a larger voice than he already has - if someone wants to read it they can private message me and I'll send them a copy.

I'm sorry you're so isolated from like minded thinkers where you live. I wish I could help in some way.

14. McCain is not a war hero
He's a hero in the broad sense for serving in the military, and for serving in combat. It's the same kind of hero that a cop or firefighter is.

But he's not a war hero. He performed no "above and beyond" actions during his military career. He did not escape from the POW camp, he did not free other prisoners, he did not single-handedly hold back an enemy platoon or jump on a grenade.

He's not Audie Murphy or Alvin York. He served with competence in a theatre of war, got shot down, was a fairly typical POW for 5 years, was released, then served another decade or so before retiring to enter politics. All of which is honorable and respectable, but that's it.

18. You have my sympathy
It's apparent that you are really frustrated about the responses to your post.

I think alot of folks here assume, like you said, that everyone lives in safe blue spots like NY or Massachusetts. I live in Australia and sometimes I just want to put up some stuff and just talk about it here on DU because I will have no one else to talk to about it with in the real world. If I called my family and friends back in the States every single time I wanted to talk about politics, my phone bill would be through the roof. And my husband being Australian can only talk so much about American politics before his eyes glaze over.

I've found much more enjoyment in General Discussion, and Political Videos is the best section of DU imho. If you want to start a chat, you may have better luck in GD or another part of the site. GD-P...well, let's just say that GD-P and a number of the regulars here have issues. It's best to let them have the playground to themselves.
