PPP Colorado Poll: Obama 54(+2), McCain 44(+2).."Obama already Just about won Colorado"

Udall is up 15

Barack Obama's already just about won the race for President in Colorado.

65% of the folks we surveyed said they had already voted, and among those respondents Obama is winning 58-41. Folks planning to vote on election day support John McCain 50-47, bringing Obama's overall lead down to ten points.

Let's look at this another way. We interviewed 2,023 people. 1306 had already voted, and 761 of them voted for Obama. That means out of the remaining folks Obama would only need 251 out of their 717 votes, or 35%. Since 47% say they intend to vote for Obama it seems like a safe bet that he'll get there.

Obama continues to dominate with independent voters in the state, leading 60-36. Colorado is yet another state where he is winning modestly more Republicans (13%) than John McCain is Democrats (10%). So much for the Democrats' party unity problem this year.

1. Wow, they've declared CO "just about" for Obama.

3. Shit! I've been pleased with the news from Colorado but this is more than good!
Ten point lead with four days to go and next to no undecideds. Colorado plus Iowa plus New Mexico -the latter two "red states" haven't been counted as battlegrounds - equals White House.

10. The same ratio is always good to see.
Even more so considering how few "undecideds" there would have to be left.

22. It's possible
CO had the largest turnout of any state in '04, so assuming they're just as pumped and ready to go, a lot of people likely went out already.

I don't think it'd a done deal until it's a done deal. I hope people don't see these kind of articles and complacent. Though I can't imagine anyone seeing a poll and somehow deciding they don't want to participate. But then again, people are freaking lazy and to many voting is probably a chore...

21. They've been expanding the sample size in the last week
I think they usually use 800-1000 voters.

26. There's good news in the reddest of red counties in CO, too!
I live in El Paso County, Colorado Springs, home of Focus on the Family. Indeed, the compound is just a mile or so away from me. Everyday, I'm hearing stories of long long lines at the early voting center at the mall down the street. I drove my son to school yesterday, which is in a place I call "Lexusland". Last election, this street was lined up and down with Bush, Lamborn (Ugh, what a neocon do-nothing rep.)signs. What do I see? 4 Obama/Biden signs and 2 Bidlack signs (He's running against Lamborn). It may not seem like a lot but, there were NO McCain signs and NO Lamborn signs!

Now, I'm not saying that they will take El Paso, but I'd love to see the numbers. Meanwhile, I'll be out canvassing this weekend and will update when I'm finished.
