Poll question: Should Obama make a campaign stop in Arizona? And drink John McCain's milkshake?
Obama campaign:

"The campaign is now seriously examining a late surge into the state. That may include ramping up TV advertising, on-the-ground staff or even deploying the candidate to stop there. Obama is scheduled to make a Western swing late this week, making an Arizona visit possible."

1. It's safer to spend that day in PA, CO, VA or FL
I love the idea of a Doolittle Raid into the Copper State, but time and resources are tight; Obama's team needs to focus on the big swing states that show a significant lead.

2. I say take it to Arizona
Two points? That's nothing. Obama could sweep Arizona out from under McCain with timely placements and a visit. He's not in danger of losing ground elsewhere, and a nod to the Democrats - and Republicans who are paying attention - in Arizona would be great.

We lose red states because the party ignores them. democrats in those states have no support and no acknowledgement so they either move to fiendlier climes or convert, just to attempt to accomplish something. The 50 State Strategy should be mandatory and followed at all times.

19. Those two points could also be made up just by Dems who weren't going to vote because
they assumed their votes wouldn't matter in AZ.

He should stick to IN, NC, FL, MO. We all know he could take AZ if he had more time.

21. Absolutely, he should go there
He accepted his nomination on the very spot McCain had already planned to give his convention speech. Nothing puts fear into an opponent like a candidate who takes his campaign directly to their house.

It's not enough to just win. We need to rub their noses in it so they will never forget (but it is important to do it with an enthusiastic smile because that will piss them off even more.).

23. GO! GO! GO! GO! GO! RUN UP THE SCOREBOARD
Don't just beat McLame bury the Repukes for the next 30 or 40 years.

Gore didn't win his home state
why should McLame be allowed to win his, if there is a chance Obama can take it! I say Go for it!
Obama will be in Nevada on Saturday. And if McLame runs to Arizona
two days before the election to defend his home state
ohhhhhhhh how funny that would be!!!

I think he needs to go to GA to An Huge rally near Atlanta would be BIG TIME!

24. It has occurred to me that this might be a "head fake" maneuver from Obama.
In order to force McCain to go back to AZ for an event, as he is apparently doing.

McCain more or less HAS to respond in this way because losing AZ would be the ultimate humiliation for him and he can't take that chance.

So if it's a "head fake", good show. I hope we win AZ anyway.

Imagine how angry it will make him? He will be forced to play defense and spend money in his home state.

It can make all the difference - It can't hurt for Obama to ask Arizonans for their vote.

33. Setting aside strategy for a moment
he SURELY has supporters in Arizona. States like that are often neglected. As someone who is leading pretty well in ELECTORAL vote polls (screw national polls), he has the "luxury" of throwing a bone to those supporters.

And you never know what could happen...

37. No, he probably shouldn't
Maybe if the polls in Arizona had been tightening earlier in the cycle it would've been a good idea. But the fact is that Obama probably will not win Arizona even though the fact that it's even close is bad bad news for McCain. If Obama spends time in Arizona during the final days instead of in the top tier swing states he will look like he's overconfident and gloating. Since he has tons of money, purchasing airtime is fine. But he needs to keep his eye on the prize and play a little bit of defense at this point.

That being said, this is another state Obama gets to add to the map in 2012.
