I'd rather have Russert...
Majority of the time I don't give much weight to the talking heads on TV because they're not what I consider real reporters. I don't sweat the reporting a lot of the time, but watching Chuck Todd over the last several weeks I've come to a conclusion.

He's not Russert, he never was Russert and he never will be Russert.

The same goes for Tom Brokaw.

I'm probably one of the few Dems here at DU who liked Russert and those two replacing him as been a disgrace. I'd rather have Luke with as bad as those two have been.

1. i wonder what Russert would have said about Palin
and her not doing shows like MTP.

i didn't like how he did his interviews but i would have liked to see his opinion throughout this election.

2. He had an impact on races, too. Remember when he said it was over for Hillary...
That really had an impact on the primary race. I would have liked to know what he thought, too.

4. One thing about Russert
his "gotcha" style sometimes grated, but just put him in a room with Palin and he could have nailed her on so many of her previous quotes.

Very few interviewers have the memory to cite inconsistencies like that.

10. there is no way she would have done an interview with Russert
but i think Russert may have at least made it a bigger issue rather than the others. and she might have even been pressured to do it. Russert would have asked people on the McCain campaign and anyone else who appears on his show why she wont do the show herself.

3. I think Chuck's problem is he's a politico who takes all possible scenarios into consideration...
Edited on Thu Oct-30-08 08:53 PM by Dennis Donovan
...and regurgitates them without giving the listener the percentage of likelihood for each scenario.

Brokaw is just a conservative journalist who has not one clue how to be unbiased, yet puts himself out as such.

Russert was a bumpkin who was bowled over by the conservative Washington cocktail circuit, so much so he forgot who he was and where he came from.

*Edited to add that I didn't hate Russert, I just found myself disappointed in him, especially from 2000 on.

6. Russert was a 6 out of 10
Yet he completely towers over the fools we have now. Todd, Gregory, Brokaw should be ashamed of themselves.

9. No, you're not alone, I miss the hell outa him
He wasn't always with the left, or with Democrats for that matter, and he pissed me off a lot. But, Tim Russert was Tim Russert and I'll miss him on election night - as will many here. You're not alone.

By the way, what I wouldn't give to have seen Palin on MTP and have to see all her quotes from the past go up on the screen. Honestly, knowing that nobody could get away with blowing off Russert & MTP, I wonder if McCain could have possibly picked her had Russert been alive.

Miss 'ya Tim.

He seemed like a really good guy. And he squeezed some interesting answers out of his guests.
