Granted, I am in a blue part of the state, but the line to vote was out the door and down the block when I got there and it was still out the door and down the block when I left. It was a really great crowd of people, the majority of whom were talking about change! This includes elderly folks who look like they'd throw rocks at you if you stepped in their yard (basically my father), middled aged parents and their teens voting for the first time. Just looking at the crowd you could see it was a mix of working class, middle class and the better off. All together. Most of who were smiling, even if annoyed by the line. There were a lot of friends running into each other with the oft repeated greeting of, "I had to make sure I voted for change."
It felt really good.
I got a paper ballot and, with daughter in tow, went into the booth and almost started crying. I didn't vote straight "D". I wanted the pleasure of voting for Obama by coloring in his bubble ... not the straight D bubble.
Throughout the process I explained to my child what I was doing, who I was voting for and why. I want her to remember something. I want her to know how important it was to her mother in the very least.
I don't know if Obama is going to win Indiana, but I won't be surprised if he does. There are a lot of people, people who might surprise you, who are voting for him. I hear them talking on the bus everyday. The "Joe the Plummers" of where I live talking about how Obama is the only choice.
Today was a good day.
Because of my job I cannot work for the campaign office. But I have given my share of money. And I have my signs up at my house. I'm talking with friends and family about this.
It was a beautiful day. I only hope next Wednesday is even more beautiful.
