OMG. My niece in GA - who is an ardent Obama supporter - just received this email
from someone in FLA.

Dear Fellow Business Owners

As a Business owner who employs 30 people, I have resigned myself to the
fact that Barack Obama, wll be our next President, and that my Taxes and
Fees, will go up in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure, that the Customer, will have to
see an increase in my fees to them of about, 8%. I will also have to lay off
6 of my employees. This really bothered me as I believe we are family, here
and did'nt know how to choose who will have to go.

So, this is what I did. I strolled thru the parking lot and found, 8 Obama
bumper stickers on my employees cars. I have decided these folks will be the
first to be laid off.

I can't think of another fair way to approach this problem. If you have a
better idea, let me know.

I am sending this letter to all Business owners that I know.

Sincerely
Ward
JOOA Corp.

--------------
(End of letter)

How in the world to you combat such ignorance, especially with the election just days away?
Has anyone else seen or heard of letters like this going around?

I swear, I hate Republicans. I know it's not good or right, but I can't help myself any more.

27. Several things here,
1. Obama MAIN office needs to contacted about this message.

2. I researched the Joop Corp and could not find anything, but still looking.

3. IF and that is a BIG ASS IF... this corporation is in fact real, I believe that if they fire someone for their political beliefs, they are breaking the law... can anyone confirm that and then make a seperate post?

4. I would email your friend, I would let her know that there are people researching this email message so that she can better respond to it. I'm going to keep looking for the corporation.

There is also a link on Obama's webpage on how to report these type of smears that McFalin is doing.

58. I can only speak for GA, but lots of other states have similar laws.
It is not a crime to fire someone for their politics in GA, nor is it a tort of any kind, nor is it a breach of a worker's rights. Under federal law, you can not be fired for your race, skin color, religion, national origin, or sex. But employers are free to fire employees for any other reason, at will, without the employee having any recourse other than the employee's being entitled to unemployment benefits.

I suspect that the employer described above would be completely within his rights to fire employees who did not share his political beliefs, and those employees would have no recourse beyond unemployment benefits, unless, of course, the employees were unionized and under a contract that specifies otherwise.

Sad but true. This kind of legal regime is what makes GA a "business-friendly" state. When you see those charts listing the "best places to do business in America," what you're seeing is a list of the worst places to be a worker.

The United States is a LIBERAL Country.

70. This isn't real.
Edited on Fri Oct-31-08 01:56 AM by girl gone mad
Variations of it have been going around blogs and e-mail for several days.

ETA my response: I expect I will be significantly expanding my small business, thanks to the generous tax cuts my customers will receive from Obama's plan. After Obama's $3000 tax credit for each new American job created goes into effect, we will be hiring over a dozen new employees. Please forward my e-mail address to your Obama supporting employees. Republicans need not apply.

49. If the employer receives any benefit from the WIA he cannot discriminate on basis of politics
(WIA being Workforce Investment Act which would include lots of benefits to employer like posting at "Job Service" etc.)

WIA is different from several anti discrimination acts in that it includes politics where several others do not.

Firing someone for their political views is INCREDIBLY illegal and would guaranteeably result in the fired employees either getting their jobs back or receiving a very large cash settlement.

That said, there is no JOOA Corp in existence. The whole thing is pure falsehood and propaganda.

According to sunbiz.org which is the State of Florida website for information of Florida Corporations, there IS NO JOOA Corporation. You can look this up for yourself.

This is just dirty tricks intimidation and if you ever get fired for your political affiliation take it to the media and destroy your former boss's business. No doubt he doesn't want to see a 50% or better reduction in revenues as Democrats boycott him for firing a Democrat for BEING a Democrat.

Let your dirty trickster friend know these two little tidbits and they'll shut right up.

That cocksucking son of a filthy whore.

I hate to say how much this pisses me off, but to begin with, the fact that he picks and chooses who to lay off based on their political leanings show what kind of a businessman he is. Does he spurn Democratic customers and their money as well?

That this economic giant of a prick assumes he can raise his prices 8% just because his candidate didn't win shows more of his business acumen than his partisanship. Does he assume customers have no choice but to pay the increase? Then why didn't he do it before? He could have had an even better year than the wonderful Buxh economy already gave him.

Then he makes the ridiculous statement that he'll lay people off regardless of demand for his product. Who's going to do the work, you fucking moran? Are you going to replace those workers with people who take a loyalty oath?

I hope this lowlife bastard goes belly up and ends up on welfare. Better yet, I hope he gets a stack of discrimination lawsuits first.

Pardon my language, but as a lifelong union worker, I haven't had someone make me this mad in a while.

On edit...
I searched this company, and only found many more examples of the email. Either it was written by some freep living in his mom's basement, or the cowardly prick wisely changed the name of his business. Whichever, I'm sure there are plenty of Buxhbot business owners who are thinking the same thing.

39. From Obama website on Small Business - Link........
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/economy/#small-business

Support Small Business

* Provide Tax Relief for Small Businesses and Start Up Companies: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation. Obama and Biden will also support small business owners by providing a $500 “Making Work Pay” tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.

* Create a National Network of Public-Private Business Incubators: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will support entrepreneurship and spur job growth by creating a national network of public-private business incubators. Business incubators facilitate the critical work of entrepreneurs in creating start-up companies. Obama and Biden will invest $250 million per year to increase the number and size of incubators in disadvantaged communities throughout the country.

51. What a dumbass!
He first off is planning to gouge prices. He states that he will raise his prices 8% to cover the 3% above 250k. That's some funny math that likely results in reduced volume and lower profits.

Then he'll be reducing his capacity by 20% by getting six out of thirty people which means he's insane. I'm very doubtful he has 20% more people than he needs to effectively run his company because he has proven to be a greedy prick. Diminished capacity and overburdened employees will further hamper his ability to remain competitive.

Next, he has went on a political witch hunt that ignores the capabilities of the individuals in play, which probably means he will be eliminating his smartest people that are most willing to sacrifice for the greater good AND has opened himself up to crushing lawsuits and large unemployment payouts, even in an at will situation.

This guy couldn't run a lemonade stand.

52. What have I been telling you all about Florida?
It's common for them to retaliate against you in business. The businessman has his own power and he knows how to use it. He'll threaten to relocate his business from the small city if the city doesn't do what he wants, he'll fire his employees for political reasons; in business organizations, like the Rotary Club, they may even talk amongst themselves and trash other people's children so that, through the grapevine, the child loses considerations for awards in the nearby high school which might give him leadership recognition.

Is it like that in other states?

55. Well, he may very well be losing the most intelligent of his
employees, so it's probably going to hurt his business.

60. Funny. I've already had to increase my fees to pay for fuel.

I want to fire Exxon-Mobile. Can you think of a way to approach this problem?

Didn't I hear something about record-breaking profits in a time of economic downturn? Who's the redistributor here?

61. How fucking characteristcially illiterate is that bullshit "message?"
First, the pointless and incostitent captilaziation.

Second, "thru?"

Third, a Google search of "JOOA Corp" returns ONLY copies of this bullshit "story," and NO actual company.

Shades of the "burly E-6" on the airplane, yes?

67. THANK YOU, everyone, for your responses to this OP. DU is such an amazing place.
Within minutes of posting this, there were multiple posts which informed me that this
is evidently a bogus letter that is making the rounds. People researched it and came back
to say that the company is a fake. Other people responded with links where I could (and did)
report the smear to Obama's campaign.

All within minutes. I'll tell ya, these internet tube thingies are just amazin'- but DUers
are the best!

Thanks again.

69. JOOA Corp is a big company.
It not only has locations in FL, but they're in IN, AZ, NV, OH, PA, MI, GA, CA and - get this - Iran.
