Joe Shows Up
By Elisabeth Bumiller

ELYRIA, Ohio – Well, Joe the Plumber finally turned up.

Joe, aka Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, who went missing this morning at a McCain rally in Defiance, Ohio, materialized this afternoon at the band stand in the town square of Sandusky and then again here in Elyria. Turns out that Mr. Wurzelbacher never received final word in these seat-of-the-pants last days of the McCain campaign that he was expected, leaving Senator John McCain to look out toward the crowd and repeatedly ask, “Joe, where are you?’’

Mr. Wurzelbacher, who told CNN that the campaign contacted him immediately afterward and dispatched a car to rush him to Mr. McCain’s next stop, has so far been a man of few words.

“All right guys, I didn’t prepare anything,’’ Mr. Wurzelbacher said in Sandusky on a sun-splashed fall afternoon after he was introduced by Mr. McCain as “our celebrity, Joe.’’

“The only thing I’ve been saying is just get out and get informed. I mean, really know what you’re talking about when you’re talking about it. Don’t take everyone’s opinions. I came to my own opinions by research. Get involved in the government. That way we can hold our politicians accountable and take back our government. It’s all ours.’’

At the next event at Lorain Community College here, Mr. Wurzelbacher got around to mentioning his endorsement of the candidate who has made him a centerpiece of his campaign. “Vote for a real American, John McCain,’’ Mr. Wurzelbacher said...

1. Hello? JOE isn't "for real" ... that's the hypocrisy!
He's not a licensed plumber and his first name is "Sam" not "Joe."

FRAUD? Yes, I think so.

3. Elyria is as depressing a town as I've ever been in... very poor.
Made poorer by the presence of JTP.

I know a lot of DUers can't stand hearing that some think McCain used to be a kind of honorable guy (understandibly so, I guess...), but I used to feel that way even though I disagreed with him. I really thought that since he was the nominee, this race would look different.

I am just left speechless by the vapid narcissism that he is now surrounded by in the form of Palin and JTP.....it's just astonishing and so, so sad, not for me, but for him, that this is what he has reduced his once noble seeming reputation to...........reeks of desperation and complete hypocrisy.
