His lead was at 8.2 over John McCain.

Today, on the 30th, his average lead is 6.1

That is a difference of only two points. There is also a good possibility Obama's lead bumps up a point when CBS' poll is released tonight. Now think of that for a second. McCain has only been able to shave 2.1 points off of Obama's largest margin and it's taken him 17 days to do just that.

At this rate, he'll tie Obama by the inauguration. :D

On EDIT: The new IBD/TIPP poll has Obama expanding his lead to 48-44, which should kick up the numbers a bit and then add in the CBS poll and Obama's average and you're looking at a possible 7 point margin again. In fact, ignore this. We'll just revisit this post in a few hours when ABC/WaPost releases their tracking poll.

1. I'm hoping there will be a bump for Obama following his
30 minute ad and that will negate any ground McCain has made :-).

3. The beginning signs will be tomorrow.
However, the total impact won't be known until Saturday or Sunday.

4. But the Pew (+14) poll will drop off soon (polling started 23rd; I think they drop it after a week).
Nevertheless, you're right: Obama's 6-7 point lead isn't going to budge much.
