What New Activism did Obama Inspire in You this Year?
Most of us have voted and participated in elections before, but for me, I have never participated this much. I am sure I am not alone, and I wanted to see what other DU'ers have done for Obama in this election that they've never done before for a candidate. What new activism did Obama inspire in you this year?

Please post what you've done this year to support Obama that you have never done before. And if you want, please share your thoughts on those new experiences (canvassing, etc.)

I'll start...

- I donated to the Kerry campaign, but this year for the first time I asked others to donate, and I donated much more this year than ever before.

- I canvassed in a neighborhood one Saturday to register new voters. I only did it once, as I'm almost cripplingly introverted. I registered 4 new voters that day. It was a hard experience and I didn't love it, but at several points during those few hours, people's enthusiasm for Obama made my day.

- I phone banked, once as a part of a volunteer effort at a regional office, and once from home. I didn't like it at all, I have to confess. I am not cut out for phone volunteering.

- I put Obama magnets on my car. I have never put a candidate's sticker or magnets on my car before. In the past I wanted to appear as neutral as possible, being as I live in (previously) red North Carolina. Not this time.

What have you done differently this year?

1. I became a precinct leader
I canvassed my precinct every week and called people and asked for volunteers within my precinct. I will be checking voters off at the polls on election day.

4. How did you become a precinct leader?
Did you sign up for it, or contact your state's board of elections? Or is it an Obama position? I'm curious about how that works...

3. Oh yeah that's one!
I'm sure a lot of people donated to out of state races, who have never before. Good on you!

5. All my political activism this year was inspired by Kucinich.
But I'm voting for Obama.

6. I have nver been so involved and I love it
ALL FIRSTS FOR ME:

I went to a political rally (saw Obama in Richmond, VA... a 2-1/2 hour drive away but so worth it)
I voted early (yesterday)
I phoned banked 4 times
I canvassed door to door in a neighboring swing state twice
i signed up to canvass in Virginia on Sunday, Monday and tuesday (election day)
i donated to Hillary in the primary and to Barack since the convention
I have a bumper sticker on my car and one in the window
I have a yard sign
I wear barak obama pins everyday (I rotate them to keep it fresh and interesting)
I have my kids wear Barak pins to school
I discovered a place called DU and spend all my spare time there....

I have never been so involved. Its not that i didn't care, i have always watched the debates, listened to the pundits, and followed the elections. I have always voted.

But Barak inspired me. he does give me hope. he does make me believe. Its just awesome.

And I can't stand the idea of 4 more years of a republican in office. Especially this unstable old fart and his idiot sidekick.

i dont want to wake up on Nov 5 and wish I had done more.
