Presidential losers often insist they will win as the campaigns wind down
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 06:09 AM by victoryparty08
Mondale in '84, Dukakis in '88, Daddy Bush in '92, Dole in '96, Gore in 2000, and in his own wishy-washy way, Kerry in 2004 all sent out victory signals just before losing. Will McCain join them? Excerpts from newspaper stories at the close of past campaigns:

1. He's got to to keep his base energized
If he shows any drop in his belief that he can win, his base will become demoralized and turnout will drop.

2. I remember how "energized" the Mondale/Ferraro crowds were in 1984.
BTW WTF is up with Geralding Ferraro? By far the weirdest political transformation I've seen.

3. She's batshit crazy
It's been sad to see the transformation in Ferraro. I used to respect her.

4. I think Ferraro has gone PUMA. She was a staunch Hillary supporter and now seems more interested
in having any woman on the ticket rather than one that will actually hold to her same ideals.

5. ..but giving aid and comfort to the GOP on FoxNews is unforgiveable
she's one of the last people I ever thought would do that.

6. She's been highly critical of Obama ever since the primaries. It's not surprising she'd go on Faux

News once Obama secured the Dem nomination. They give her free reign to say whatever she wants about Barack.
