What about the Nader factor? What can you do about that?
From: StopNader.com
Subject: Project Petition Watch

As you know, Ralph Nader has been receiving significant Republican support, in terms of campaign donations and Republican volunteers who've been gathering illegitimate petition signatures on
his behalf. (Link: http://www.stopnader.com/news.asp?NewsID=25) As if
that weren't enough of a conflict of interest, Nader has even gone so
far as to contract with a well-known conservative political consulting firm. (Link: http://www.stopnader.com/news.asp?NewsID=31 )

Current polls show Bush edging out Kerry or running neck and neck in many states. We can't afford to allow Nader to swing the election in Bush's favor again.

StopNader.com fighting back in key states has been successful
in keeping Nader off the Arizona and Missouri ballots. (Link:
http://www.stopnader.com/latest_news.asp ) We're currently working on
a critical project to verify Nader's Wisconsin and New Mexico
petitions. (Link: http://www.stopnader.com/news.asp?NewsID=32 )

We need your help! In the spirit of getting Bush out of office, we
need a team of 40-50 volunteers to work with us on "Project Petition
Watch."

We have just three weeks to organize, divide and conquer. Contact us at info@StopNader.Com and we'll include you in our upcoming conference call to explain exactly what you can do to work with us on this very important project. It's easy and you don't need to be local to help. You can make the difference!

Together, we can do this!

1. CHILL!
Nader gets on a ballot- or he does'nt. There is nothing we can do about that process. Bad mouthing Nader at this point is a waste of time and energy. Last time he cost the nation Florida- but that MUST have taught W haters a lesson, and only worked because Dems were'nt passionately concerned about the outcome. The fact that nearly ALL of his support this time around is coming from the Repugs will further diminish his mis-guided base. This election will turn on who gets out the base. Nader is going to be the historical footnote he SHOULD have been last time. Calm down. Have a glass of wine. And don't dignify this egomaniac with any more attention than he can manage to squeeze out of FOX news.

4. Why Chill?.
I'm not hot (well I am kinda....but I can't help it if I'm beautiful!) or anything. This is not about "bad-mouthing" Nader, it's about stopping him from getting onto Battleground states' presidential ballots.

This is about verifying signature on Nader's ballot petitions. This group has been sucessful in keeping Nader OFF THE BALLOT in several states.

Many who have signed these petition don't even know what they have signed. If they say "no, I didn't know that's what I was signing" or are having second thoughts....their name comes off the petition.

It's that simple....and not a slam.

It's about not tempting anyone to just vote Nader......period.

7. Because we are out of time
While I am an attorney, I can't claim to be familiar with the election laws of all 50 states. But what I am pretty sure of is that if there is a challenge to be made to any of Nader's efforts to get on a ballot- the time to make that challenge has come and gone. We are 8 weeks from E-Day, we have to be sitting on the outside date at which an entire state can adjust for who will- and who will not be on the scan, touch-screen, punch card, etc. ballot that will be presented to the people.
Did you see the "Real Time" episode where Michael Moore and Bill Mahr dropped to their knees and begged Nader to drop out? Good TV. What I really loved was Mahr's holding up a picture of OJ Simpson at the end and admonishing Nader that "You can blow a life time's worth of being considered a hero over just one thing". Screw Nader. Whatever damage he can do is done. I don't think it will be much.

2. His ego needs to be put to sleep
He doesn't seem to get the kind of damage he caused with his campaign last time to the whole country, he SHOULD be able to set aside his vendetta against the Democratic Party for the good of the nation, but I guess that is a bridge too far for Ralph.

3. Look at it like this...
The bastard is on a selfish little crusade, just like Junior, exept his will bring down the party and in turn the nation. He's like a yappy dog that needs to be put to sleep.

I need some volunteers to keep Nader off the ballot in New Mexico..where it's tight now (a State that Gore won by a tiny amount of votes).

Go to the website and get involved.

Not crazy about Kerry? But you are ABB?
This is the perfect project for you.
Will take just a few hours of you time.

This group has been very effective without bad-mouthing the wannabe!

How you can help here: http://www.stopnader.com/help.asp

I think working to keep ANYONE off the ballot is contrary to the spirit of democracy. And when those few voters see that Democrats are trying to take away their choices, the chance of winning them over is lessened. Do you actually think after you work to take away their choices they are going to turn around and vote the way you want them to?

There are far more constructive ways to spend time and energy in the short time left.

6. If you live in a state with a Democratic governor and majority
in congress, see if you can't convince them to switch to Instant Runoff Voting in time for the election. (I know, not real likely, but at least get the idea out there.)

8. Nader not on ballot in Virginia.
The ball game is over for Ralph in Virginia. A strong red state. Don't know how much support he had here but it does not matter now.

13. Nader
is officially on ballot for Maine. Sec of State Dan Gwadowski, four term Democratic Sec of St and former Dem legislator and Speaker of Me House of Reps, issued final decision today-announced in Bangor Daily News dated 9/8/04. (sorry-no can do citations.)

Interesting side note-a Tim Tom Ted??? Devine of the Kerry campaign noted that the election could actually come down to the vote in the 2nd Cong. district in Maine due to the way Maine breaks down the award for electoral votes. (NPR report today-sorry, I was driving at the time).

Devine feels the 2nd will be crucial, as Gore, while winning Maine in 2000, only won the 2nd by about 5500 votes.

The re-districting Maine did, after the 2000 census results, delivered about 3500 DP voters to the 2nd Dist. from the 1st Dist.

The margin of victory potential for Kerry is less than the number of registered Greens for the 2nd Dist. Some Greens in the area are not happy with the DP over anti-Nader and anti-Green activity by the DP.
